Ducks drop finale 5-4 after a 9th inning rally comes up a run short.

Season is definitely over. And so goes the streak of a few NCAA tournament bids.
I wonder how many guys we lose this year. All eligible players we have usually run to the draft like they are running from fire.

yeah nogo's gone.

irvin's gone.

steve mims mentioned that he's hearing krook is still being looked at as a top 5 rounder, which, if true, i imagine he's gone.

as for our position players... balta has the power numbers, but his average so awful i just don't know where he'll land. i didn't think mlb teams coveted corner outfielders with no power, but then they took brett thomas pretty high a few years ago. jake bennett fits that brett thomas mold. austin grebeck's numbers dipped as the season wore on but he's a multi-tool player, i wouldn't be surprised if he went in the top 20 rounds.

I find that even if our worst players have the 1% chance of getting drafted and playing for peanuts, literally, they will leave.
Not sure if it's because they hate school, or something in the program is not right. But it is what it is.

i don't think it's anything negative in regards to the program, getting drafted just happens to be the childhood dream of 99% of all college baseball players. we've had some guys drafted and come back -- keudell and irvin the most notable -- but typically, after 3 years of tape, you're not going to improve your draft stock significantly after a 4th year... so if professional baseball is your dream, you weigh the risk of injury versus the risk of improving your stock after your junior year.

exceptions being coming back to improve your stock after a significant injury, or those rare kids who come back for a 4th year because they just love the college atmosphere and want to win a national championship (ben wetzler of oregon state a few years ago comes to mind).

honestly, i can't think of any ducks who were drafted and signed who would have benefited from another year of college -- off the top of my head. not saying you can't come up with an example, i'm just not thinking of any obvious candidates.
