Southern Utah G Randy Onwuasor granted transfer and according to the article we are interested. Could be a good perimeter compliment?

Meh we have a spot so might as well use it on a talented player for the year. Up to him to then earn the playing time

Why would they need another guard when they're short on post/frontcourt players?

That was my thought. A guy who is expected to carry the load offensively usually has lower percentages but we don't really need another guard. If it's all that we can pick up though then I suppose its better than an empty spot/walk-on who won't get on the floor.

As a guard, he's no Joe Young.

Is there a true post player still out there to be brought in? Serious question. Oregon has plenty of guys perfect for that hybrid 3/4 role that Cook and Brooks manned the last three years, but unless Altman can specifically land a traditional big man I don't see the big deal in taking another guard.

This is how I see it too. Seems like a low risk/high reward move.

He plays more like an undersized 3 and I think we're going to see a lot of 3 guard, small ball lineups this year. SUU did that a lot too, with him being the 3, often matching up against bigger players and playing on the baseline in their 2-3 zone. I'd be happy to have him. Low risk, high upside addition.
