When was the last time the old staff ever said anything like,"Can't wait to get back to see the players." Awesome!

LOL- just because the old staff didnt do as much social media doesnt mean they didnt care about the players.

Maybe not, but I think it is clear the old staff didn't care about the fan base as much, open practices, trips to Portland, courting the Portland fan base, giving fans lots of "peeks into our world" through twitter. I was a huge Helf supporter, boy was I wrong, so much going on with the old staff in a bad way....... because of the staff. I hope this thread doesn't get derailed into a coach bashing staff, I'm just loving this staff, not bashing the old staff.

I don't think anyone could have cared more about the University of Oregon than Mark Helfrich -- certainly not a bunch of guys from out of state who just got here.

But it's not really about that... it's about SELLING the program to a bunch of other guys (including many who are also out of state).

Helfrich was definitely not a good salesman.

And I'm not trying to say WT and his staff are insincere about building bonds and making something special -- by all indications, they'll do that better than Helfrich was capable of doing -- but to say Helfrich didn't care based on X, Y and Z is a bit arbitrary. He was deeply connected to the program in ways most others can't understand. That he cared so much is what made his failure more heartbreaking.

Anyway, just urging perspective as we cheer on our new coaching staff. For the most part, I'm thrilled by how these guys are handling their business and building something new here at Oregon.

I think both coaching staffs care or cared, but there was a strong incompetence to motivate players and recruit aggressively. Mark Helfrich leading the way as pezsez mentioned.

Probably from the golf program. They likely have boxes of those things just lying around.

Doesn't appear so. His sons are Willie Jr. and Jackson.

Still, sorry for you loss coach.

Not sure who it is. I'm thinking either a nephew or a son they lost in a miscarried pregnancy.
