Top Players By Position

Post by pistolpetejr »

Thought it would be cool to get every GM's take on the top-5 DASL players by position TODAY, not taking into consideration potential, age, etc. Just individual skills and how it translates to team success. It'll be interesting to see the different takes and the arguments for and against.

Someone get the ball rolling!

Brandon Ingram
Kawhi Leonard
Andrew Wiggins
Marvin Bagley
Thon Maker

Didn't pick a PG, because there's many out there. It was also hard to pick Thon Maker, because you could make a case for Embiid, Bol Bol, or someone else.

Appreciate your top-5 players league-wide, but what about by position?
Also, are those in order (1 through 5)?

Nah, not ordered.

Position:
C-Thon Maker
PF-Marvin Bagley
SF-Andrew Wiggins
SG-Kyree Walker
PG-John Wall

Center position was hardest. SF a little harder, the rest seem like the natural picks.

I guess what I was trying for, despite this also being very interesting, is top-5 PGs, top-5 SGs, SFs, PFs, and Cs haha. Sorry for the lack of clarity.

Gave it a shot. Don't think I missed anyone.

C:
Joel Embiid (Timberwolves)
Thon Maker (Heat)
Bol Bol (Cavaliers)
Myles Turner (Bullets)
DeAndre Ayton (Hawks)

PF:
Marvin Bagley (Suns)
Jordan Brown (Raptors)
Jordan Bell (Pistons)
Anthony Davis (Timberwolves)
Shareef O'Neal (Nuggets)

SF:
Andrew Wiggins (Kings)
Kawhi Leonard (Nets)
Brandon Ingram (Grizzlies)
Ben Simmons (Clippers)
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (Mavericks)
RJ Barrett (Celtics)

SG:
Kyree Walker (Trailblazers)
LaMelo Ball (Grizzlies)
Malik Monk (Lakers)
Gary Trent Jr. (Bucks)
Klay Thompson (Clippers)

PG:
John Wall (Grizzlies)
Dante Exum (Jazz)
Lonzo Ball (76ers)
D'Angelo Russell (Bucks)
Dennis Smith (Hornets)

put 6 SFs since MKG and Barrett were basically washes, though I'd take MKG over Barrett.

Nice. Not sure if those are in order (1-5) for each position, but I think I'd take Jordan Bell over Jordan Brown personally.

Yes, in order. Embiid #1 center, and so on.

I figure #2-4 for the PFs can be interchanged and still be fairly accurate. I went with Brown for the superstar-level scoring. He does play SF for the Raptors though.

Well noted. I think versatility is something to keep in mind as well. I wonder how Bell would do at SF. Maybe Pistons can shed some light on that.
Also, the Raptors don't really have other scorers right now, so that bolsters Brown.

Bell could easily be the #2 if he wasn't still slumping from the playoffs last season. Did 25 PPG last season. and yet, with the other top three scorers on the team being 20.0 and 13.6, he isn't all that close to matching that production. Might be the very fast pace. I've seen bigs struggle in faster offenses before.

Yeah tempos matter to bigs. Turnovers, foul trouble...
