Mariners led off with a home run, the 3rd batter hit one too. But, while they got out of serious trouble in the 8th, the Red Sox got a 3 run homer in the top of the 9th to take the lead, and win, when the Mariners went down in order in the bottom of the 9th, to lose their first game, 7-6.

Had they actually had a reliever last night they'd be 4-0. Oh well.

Mariners win, 6-5. They made it interesting. Going in to the 9th, Mariners led 6-2, with 2 outs, Mariners led 6-2, then, ... 3 errors by third baseman, Dylan Moore, and its 6-5. But Nick Rumbelow comes in and strikes out Bogaerts for a 1 out save, Leake goes 6 innings for the win.

Mariners make it interesting in the 9th again, win 10-8, take 3 of 4 from the Red Sox. 5-1 on the season, and the homestand continues, against the Angels, starting tomorrow night.

As a Red Sox fan I know for a fact the last five to ten years Seattle has owned Boston at Safeco and now even T-Mobile. No matter how bad Seattle is and as good as Boston is, Seattle usually always has won the series at home. Just looking it up now 2-2 last year, mariners won 2 of 3 in 17, 2-2 in 16, 2-2 in 15, M's two out of three in 14 and Boston won 3 of 4 in 13. Odd to me how Seattle does well every time even when they haven't been that good.

Mariners 2 Angels 1. For the first time in their history, the Mariners start 7-1, they were 7-2 in 2001. This one was different than the other 7 games to start the season; for the first time this season the Mariners scored fewer than 5 runs.
The Angels scored first, with a run in the second. The Mariners tied it in the 6th, and keeping their home run in every game streak going, took the lead in the 8th with a home run by DH, Daniel Vogelbach. Marco Gonzales became the first Mariners pitcher since Felix Hernandez in 2008 to start 3=0 almost had a complete game, but could only get 1 out in the 9th before yet another pitcher cam eout of the bullpen for the Mariners. With the one out, Anthony Swarzak was careful with Mike Trout and walked him on 4 pitches. Andrelton Simmons hit a line drive past SS, Tim Beckham, and Trout made it 3rd. Albet Pujols was up next and he went down swinging. Two outs and catcher Jonathan Lucroy Simmons to give the Angels the lead, but 2b, Dee Gordon somehow got to it, and his throw beat Lucroy by half a step. Mariners travel to Chicago for a series against the White Sox, first game, Friday @ 11:00.

it's been a nice, initial burst out of the gate. but our defense is a travesty (should help when seager gets healthy) and our pitching is... well, it's a good thing the offense is hitting the ball so well.

i still say best case scenario is guys like beckham and bruce continue to hit the ball and we're able to get nicer-than-expected returns for them near the deadline to continue the youth movement.

16 errors on the season. The Mariners were behind 6-1, but with 4 home runs, 2 in the 6th, the Mariners led 8-6. The White Sox didn't waste anytime though, 3 in the 7th and 1 in the 8th gave them enough for the 10-8 win. Groin injury, tightening, takes Dee Gordon out of the game, day to day for his return.
