Wow. Not sure why Aranda would take that job. UNLV has like 3 winning seasons in the last 30 years.

Doesn't Aranda make like 4 times what the last UNLV Head Coach was paid? I would think he'd have a shot at a Power Five job if he was looking to leave LSU.

I've been a bigger defender of Arroyo than most. Or at least I haven't been stumping to have him tar and feathered and ran out of town tied to the back of a donkey. I hope we keep him, but I won't be heartbroken if he leaves - as long as we don't lose an assistant like Heyward with him.

UNLV is finally showing some commitment to football and getting some nice facilities. They've built a brand-new football facility and will be sharing the new football stadium with the Raiders. Aranda has been talking to John Robinson, the former USC coach who also coached at UNLV but is now a consultant with the LSU program, so knows what he's getting into. He's wanting to take on the challenge.

Here's FootballScoop's take on why Aranda may be interested in the UNLV job:

Also, here's what a UNLV beat writer has found out as of now:

If Mario was able to upgrade from a good coordinator in Leavitt, then I’m sure I’ll do the same with a subpar coordinator in Arroyo. Arroyo to me is kinda like Frost, someone I thought would be a better HC than OC.
That seems very unlike Helf
Helf didn't know I could hear, he was talking to a trusted person and I overheard cause I'm nosy.

What he hated about the culture was that it was so focused on winning now, no patience for losing, simply win and nothing else. Basically he felt like Oregon wasn't big time enough to be like that and it made it not as fun for the program, coaches, players, and fans.
Well he could always go to Oregon State.

I'm in wait and see mode on this one. I didn't have disdain for Arroyo like so many on here did and thought most of our hiccups fell on Herbert this year.

That said, Cristobal has done excellent with all of his hires to this point so it's possible we see a big upgrade.
