Way-Too-Early 2024 Depth Chart

Post by StevensTechU »

Still plenty of movement to and from Oregon in the transfer portal, but here's my best guess. I've listed a third player at positions where they could see meaningful playing time.

QB - Dillon Gabriel* / Dante Moore
RB - Jordan James* / Noah Whittington / Jayden Limar
LT - Josh Connerly* / Faaope Laloulu
LG - Marcus Harper / Nishad Strother
OC - Poncho Laloulu / Bryce Boulton
RG - Mathew Bedford / Dave Iuli
RT - Ajani Cornelius* / Kawika Rogers
TE - Terrance Ferguson* / Patrick Herbert
WR1 - Evan Stewart* / Jurrion Dickey
WR2 - Traeshon Holden / Kyler Kasper
WR3 - Tez Johnson* / Gary Bryant Jr.

DE - Matayo Uiagelelei* / Terrance Green
DT - Jordan Burch / Ben Roberts / A'Mauri Washington
NT - Jamaree Caldwell* / Keyon Ware-Hudson
OLB - Teitum Tuioti* / Blake Purchase*
ILB1 - Jestin Jacobs* / Connor Soelle
ILB2 - Jeffrey Bassa / Devon Jackson
CB1 - Kam Alexander / Dontae Manning
CB2 - Jahlil Florence / Rodrick Pleasant
FS - Kobe Savage* / Khamari Terrell
SS - Tysheem Johnson / Kodi DeCambra
N - Nikko Reed / Daylen Austin

K - Atticus Sappington* / Gage Hurych

* - denotes guys who I think have the ability to be all-conference performers in 2024. Championship caliber teams generally are riddled with these guys and have them spread across their position groups.

That offense looks great! Our defense is one elite CB away from looking great.

Probably one of the most complete depth charts going into spring in my lifetime.

Bassa is not an all-conference performer?

In the Big Ten, no, I don't think so. I think his ceiling is "really solid." Hope I'm wrong, but I was pretty surprised that he was flirting with the NFL after this season.

I'd quibble with the Defense slightly by making it a 12 man roster that takes into account the base defense.

In a base 34 I think it may look like this

OLB/DE - Matayo/Purchase or Rushing
DE - Burch/
DT - Ware-Hudson/
NT - Chadwell/
OLB - Tuioti/Winston or Purchase

As far as who backs up the starting DL, Washington, Roberts, Green, Gardner and Breeland will be fighting to take those reps and I don't think most of us would be shocked if someone overtakes Ware-Hudson and starts next year in that DT spot. It also looks like Chadwell may stay on the field on some passing downs but I'd expect a heavy rotation for us since we're likely to see more rushing than we've typically been accustomed to in the P12.

Bigger Edge players like Ashton Porter and Elijah Rushing might end up thriving in some games for the size/length they can throw out there.

Looks great, on paper at least.

I would anticipate Jay Harris being ahead of Limar in the running back rotation. He may even be #2, depending on Whittington's recovery. Did they ever reveal the full extent of his injury?

At linebacker, I am hoping talented young guys like Mixon and/or Platt will step up and bump Connor Soelle out of the 2-deep.

Terrance Green is 6’5 315. Is he a DE? I thought he was a DT?

2005 team was comparable based on actual NFL talent, especially on the defensive side of the ball on the DL and DBs.

2014 with Marcus is probably the most deadly Oregon team of all-time because of Marcus but people sleep on the fact that the 2005 team had both of its losses vacated and were it not for some extremely questionable calls against USC they were neck and neck with that 05 USC team that played arguably the greatest NC game of all-time against Vince Young and Texas.

2014 could have been the best talent, IF Colt didn’t lose his struggle, and if DAT had done the right thing and came back.

NIL would be perfect for someone like DeAnthony: a star in college, but too small for the NFL. Too bad he missed it by a few years.

NIL worked great for Reggie Bush - Oh yeah, he missed it by a few years too.

It worked out good for all the Miami teams of the 90s.
