Contrast that with last night. We played incredible D throughout, with an actual plan & strategy, not just hoping they'd miss. And in the 2nd half when we cooled off, which is to be expected, we went down low a ton, took the ball to the rack & kept up the pressure D. There's no comparison between the 2 coaches.
I agree, your right, there is no comparison.

there's really not. altman is an incredible coach. but that doesn't mean ernie couldn't find a way to win when he had incredible talent.

Ernie had 4 20 win season in his entire time at UO. Altman is about to have 2 in 2 years.

i made a post alluding to that on educk earlier today. ernie went 20-wins back-to-back once, 2002 and 2003, with the greatest point guard in school history (my opinion only, for you terrell brandon lovers). that altman is about to do 20+ wins back to back is incredible given what was put on his plate last year. and i don't care about how many extra games we got in the CBI: that roster had no right to win 21 games if they played FIVE HUNDRED times. it was that bad. and ernie certainly had opportunities to win extra games with the occasional nit run.

I have really enjoyed watching the full court press. It has caused many a turnover & now they seal off the opponent from popping in for an easy basket (in the beginning of this year, some easy baskets were had by the opponent). It's been great to see them really perfect it.

To be fair...

Ernie never had the luxury to buy 5 postseason home games.

Bottom line: Kent did less with more. Altman is doing more with less.

I understand your point, but it's not like we only beat up on crap teams. Creighton was very good and obviously they are a tournament team this season. We did pay for the opportunity to play in the CBI, but we still won those games.

You are absolutely right, I'm pretty sure we can still get Ernie back if we called him up real nice too.

Funny to see the Kent gushers still drooling over him. If he is such a good coach, why isn't he coaching now?

ernie also played 5 extra games in the nit and failed to win 20 in '99, and we played 4 extra games in the nit in '04 and we failed to win 20. going on an extended run in a lesser postseason tourney is not unprecedented by any means, the trick to hitting 20 wins is to put yourself in a situation where winning 4-5 "extra" games can push you over 20.

and, as i said above, 21 wins with last year's sad sack of mediocrity is impressive no matter how it's spun. EVERYBODY thought we were a sure-fire last place team.

Not that it really matters... but I'm pretty sure it was only 4 games in '99.

No, it loses it's significance... and technically the CBI gave us 6 extra games. I was simply pointing out that we paid for 5 home games... further devaluing the meaningfulness of a 20 win season.

Yes, last years team overachieved
