Game prediction thread on obnug.com

Post by BisonDucks »

Most of the posters on "One Bronco Nation Under God" are predicting that we score 24 points or fewer. In fact, most are predicting 17-21 points. I know that many are concerned about the offensive line. I personally am not. Anyway, I think we score 42 points. I don't know that we stop them but we will score a lot of points. Masoli was 15-22 for 215 yards and 2 Tds against our first string defense. I won't make a prediction. However, I think the Bronco Nation is overestimating their performance last year against a shell of an offense that we were against them.

IMO, much of Boise State's performance against the Ducks last season came in the form of a huge boost to the Bronco's confidence provided by the lack of offense, once Masoli went down.

When the defense is able to concentrate solely on a running game that was very predictable at the time, and the offense is having even moderate success, it is completely arguable that the Broncos played most of that game way over their heads.

Are they a good team? Yes... But the Ducks helped them look great.

The Bronco fans confidence certainly hasn't worn off:

http://www.obnug.com/2009/5/7/868377/boise-state-oregon

"The game is September 3rd, 2009 @ Bronco Stadium. Boise State is 64-2 at home since 1999 (broncosports.com).

Kellen will probably pick apart Oregon's secondary once mo(o)re.

The defense will again prove to be a stout unit, especially the backfield.

Special Teams will remain a tactical force.

The running game will be improved with the depth at RB.

Prediction -------------> 38-21 Boise State"

The Ducks need to go out and turn the bluegrass Bronco fans green with envy... Or nausea!

I agree, if Oregon is healthy (Masoli, Blount, O-Line) the Ducks will put up a lot of points, Boise State doesn't really have the threat of a running game and they like the play action so if Alliotti can put together a game plan that stops the long ball the Ducks won't allow them to score much. I predict a sizeable win for the Ducks!

I think the ducks will be able to win if are healthy. The O line is a concern and am concerned about it. I think given how much the ducks are going to be ready for the Broncos and the added time Chip Kelly has to get ready for that game will mean the ducks win by 14 or 17. I think it will be a fairly high scoring game given the fact that do not have any faith in Allow A Lot E coming up with a passing defense to stop teams. The offense once again will have to do the majority of the work and just be able to outscore the Broncos. I hope the refs will not take any of these malicious hits 3 seconds after Masoli passes the ball. I am fairly confident that issue will be solved before the game starts and both sides be told to play a clean game.

It's their website, so naturally they are going to think they play well and win. Duck websites and fans would say that we will play well and win. All I know is that it's way too early to be making predictions.

If we lose, I doubt it's because we couldn't score. The only way I see them winning is if Moore has his way against us.

I think one of the things that killed us the most last year against them was our linebacker play, and the mismatches they would create. I would not be surprised if Bryson Littlejohn played a lot in this game. From everything I've read about him in JC, he was known for his coverage and speed. And he's shown glimpses of that so far. I still think Eddie Pleasant will start, but our linebacker play will be MUCH improved.

As I see it, the two biggest factors in Boise State winning last year were us losing our QB (and lacking experienced depth) and them making a praiseworthy yet gimmicky surprise change in offensive scheme.

#1 The odds are very unlikely that we will have QB problems. Even if Masoli were to be injured, I think the Ducks would blow them out with Roper, maybe even Thomas.

#2 Aliotti's early season scheme last year was way too technical and aggressive. It was particularly so against the Broncos. He seemed to have assumed that Moore wasn't ready for prime-time and wouldn't be able to pass effectively. While anything is possible, I don't see us making the same mistakes twice. Maybe we'll over-compensate and be too conservative on defense in order to avoid getting burned by unexpected, trick plays (count on them to go after the non-Thurmond corner a lot). But, that still puts us in the win column, imo.

Unless we blow it with a bad defensive scheme or come out surprisingly bad on offense (bad snaps! special teams!), we win this game by 14-21 points. Sorry Broncos. Your 15 minutes are over.

I agree with you that the commentary should be biased, as it is their site. However, I am on our site suggesting that we could very well allow more than 42. I worry about our defensive line. Anyway, their scorelines suggest pure naiveté, in my opinion. Suggesting that our team will score 17, 21, or 24 points is ridiculous. I know why they are doing this as well. They were stout against everyone in the WAC and an OOC schedule that included Bowling Green, Idaho State and a post-season game against TCU. The funny thing is that we scored more against them than any other team they faced; that was with a true freshman playing most of the game. TCU is a grind out team that held the distinction of being #1 in T.O.P; it was the post- season and most teams scored under their seasonal averages. Anyway, their point of view is that they are playing on their home field, they beat us on ours, they're a stout defense returning their secondary, and it will be tough for us to score. I am saying: those poor little broncos won't know what hit them.

Btw, our offensive line is why we ONLY score 42.

I may be the only one when I say this but enough of the shoulda woulda coulda talk. Masoli was not nearly as seasoned at that point as he is now and not to mention our defense was AWFUL that entire game. Personally I'd rather see the play on the field back that claim up then all of this hypothetical talk. Fortunately Masoli wants blood for that game so hopefully we'll get our wish.

I agree that our defense gave up a lot of points. However, on the flip side, you cannot keep going 3 and out and expect to keep BSU from scoring. They are a great offensive team and only a handful of teams keep them from scoring that many points with our offensive performance. We were AWFUL on the offensive side of the ball.

Actually, Oregon had 29 first downs to BSU's 16 in that game, and except for the totally inept 2nd quarter performance, the Ducks outscored the Broncos 32-13.

Barring "Blue Voodoo," the Ducks can win this game.

Exactly, we should be able to put up more points than Boise. Only reason we didn't last year was because we had no QB threat whatsoever.

They need to get the idea stuck in their brains that we score more than 24 points! Just look at the final game of the season it's not that hard to grasp.

I see us dropping 40 in Boise!
