Not in the same class.

Its pretty obvious, If you have 2 starting caliber quarterback upperclassmen... chances are one will transfer.

It sucks, but its pretty obvious he wasn't going to beat out Masoli. I would do the same thing if I was him.

Sucks. Roper was a competent QB and a strong backup. The way he stepped up in the Sun Bowl two years ago was gutsy. He will be greatly missed!

This really makes getting a QB or two a must this year even though this year's class is fairly weak at the QB spot. This may also make the coaches think hard about making Daryle Hawkins a WR instead of a QB. We now need the depth. We also have to hope that Costa is ready to go and doesn't get hurt again. I really don't want the coaches to have to waste Thomas' RS year again.

I'm honestly surprised that there haven't been more transfers. We've been much better off than Tennessee losing all their players. Granted Chip isn't the douche that Kiffin is but still, Tennessee is a big program.

Man. Huge loss. I've always been a Roper fan.

I also figured that it was a big chance he would play this season.

I hope nothing bad is going on behind the scenes with morale. We've had that before.

The Ducks would have won a lot of games with Roper as the starter. I thought he had a great touch on the ball. But I have to admit I love the running quarterback offense, esp. when they run over people, and with Ropers frame I see possible injury unless he starts sliding earlier.

That must have been a heck of an evaluation between Kelly and Roper. I would suspect 2 things were said, Masoli is the QB, and #2 spot is up for grabs.

Hope Thomas wasnt' set on RS'ing this year. No way he makes it all year without playing.

I agree with most of the posts, though i will miss rope as a quality back-up, IF Costa's knee stays healthy we will not miss a beat if something happens to Masoli IMO. Costa knows this offense as good as anyone, but god i hope he can stay healthy!! No way does D. Thomas redshirt now IMO. I would hate too ask Masoli too change his game up ( i.e. run-over linebackers & safety's .. .. . but he may have start doing some more juking instead of straight on i'm gonna run your ass over ). Roper looked great in the spring game, he will be missed. I see ROPER and FLU going too the Montana Grizzzzz

Because of this, Thomas is going to have to likely burn a second season where he plays but not very often. There is a good chance the same thing would happen the season after that, meaning DT would only have one full season as the Oregon qb. Not good at all.

Was thinking the same thing. Especially if Costa's knee doesn't hold up. Thomas will become the number 2 and will play mop up duty, a la Dixon.

Maybe the coaches can bring in another JC QB before fall camp. Incoming freshman Daryle Hawkins is listed as a QB and played QB, we don't know for sure what position he'll ultimately play. Anyway you slice it, Thomas will play this year.

Wow what a surprise. I know the offense is a different offense than what he is accustomed to but he was a really good 2nd string qb for us and this defnitely hurts. We have had bad luck having a qb stay healthy with this offense. Not neccesarily saying its because of the offense.. more just bad luck. I do not think Costa will see the field and if does will always worry will reinjure again his knee. I doubt Thomas will be able to redshirt either which we badly need for him to be able to. Defnitely need to get 1 qb this signing period and hopefully 2 in 2011. I think Masoli is the better qb in this system i just worry bout whether he can stay healthy all year. Granted the noly reason he didnt last year was because of an extremely late hit by somebody.

If all else fails, we still have Chris Harper. I would rather see CH at QB then waste another year of Darron Thomas' elegibility.
