Affirmative Action was never INTENDED to make mandatory quotas of minorities. It was INTENDED to force employers to market the positions to minorities based on a cross section of the community. In short, the only "quota" an employer would have to deal with would be in the attempt to RECRUIT minorities, not actualy hire them in a minimum number. However, confusion and overzelousness made it so that some employers actualy did hire based upon quotas. This caused the backlash that we see today against Affirmative Action. Affirmative Action is not a failed endeavor in and of itself, it is the fault of confused employers and those with unethical agendas that have made it a negative buzzword. As a disclaimer, I am a white male.
To be forced to interview a minority for something like a head coaching position is nothing more than a hurdle, government red tape. It's an annoyance at best and will never force anyone to actualy hire someone based upon their race. To me, it's no big deal. It just costs the University slightly more money and time to bring someone in to interview.

Destroyer, you have a very strong understanding of not only the intent of affirmative action, but also the practice. Explain that though in relation to the California University system that left so many white people having to choose a secondary school because a lesser qualified minority was given admission above them.

This. If an AD is determined to not hire a black guy, one interview won't change his mind. And if he doesn't care about the guy's skin color, there's no reason for the law. Pretty simple stuff.Destroyer77 wrote: To be forced to interview a minority for something like a head coaching position is nothing more than a hurdle, government red tape. Exactly my point. Hiring agencies have either misunderstood the intent or used it maliciously to further a liberalist agenda.TualatinDuck wrote:Destroyer, you have a very strong understanding of not only the intent of affirmative action, but also the practice.
