Cliff Harris arrested and subsequently cut

Post by uostudent »

For weed. Just got cut by the Jets today.

Sucks that he couldn't control his love for the green. There are plenty of players in the NFL who do far worse stuff, but when you're a borderline player like Uncle Cliffy, you need to stay out of trouble.
“If everybody in this room just want to be real with themselves, this game could have went either way,” he said. “We turned the ball over a lot. We beat ourself. Just be real with yourself right now. We beat ourself.”

sorry to say this but it doesn't suck. Cliff has no interest in doing the right thing to continue playing football. You reap what you sow and in this case Cliif deserves everything he is getting. Not trying to be mean or cruel here but look at Dion Jordan- worked his ass off and did not do stupid things. He is in line for good things. Cliff continues to do stupid stuff. You only get so many chances in this life and Cliff has screwed up everytime. To all the naysayers who thought Ck was too tough on him when we was at UO well I guess they were wrong.

What a waste of talent. Now he can go back to where the hell ever he will live and play with his home boys. No more chances Cliff. See your sorry ass in court. To think of the possibilities!

Funny in ny he gets arrested, yet today golfing in the Seattle are a 4some of 50yo guys in front of me where openly smoking pot. They didn't have to worry about the law in Washington.

Which is why Adam Jones has been in the NFL for 6 years? UW legend Jerramy Stevens played 8+ years in the NFL. There are plenty more examples that can be cited. The NFL is full of thugs (moreso than any other professional sports league).

I'm disappointed that Cliff continues to make poor decisions, but it's ridiculous to say that he deserves to fail. I don't think you realize how many successful people there are out there who smoke marijuana....

That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen here. The NFL is not full of thugs, unless you think smoking pot is for "thugs". You do know over half the NBA smokes, and the MLB is full of guys trying to cheat and get ahead.

It's not really about him burning tree, but that he's a knucklehead with poor decision making skills. He was one of my all-time favorite CB prospects. He still has time to turn things around, but I wouldn't bet on the young man.

But he keeps finding ways to get arrested while smoking it. If he smoked at home, instead on the road or in public, I highly doubt he'd have been in as much trouble as he has. You'd think after 1 arrest he'd get the point but now it's been multiple times and he still hasn't gotten it.

and for this reason the Fed Govt has massive issues relating to charging anyone with marijuana possession because you can't say its illegal in one state and legal in the other. They either have to acknowledge that they have no right to legalize substances or they have to decide that WAs law is illegal. Cliff could charge that his 4th Amendment rights to equal protection are being violated.

Now, all that aside, he knew that he can't be doing that stuff if he wants to play football. He did and thats on him. To suggest that he's now going to be some vagrant, grow the F up as you sound classless when trying to vilify someone. I wish him the best and hope he can make the right changes in his life.

Everybody does it, right?

Doesn't make it a great decision when you KNOW that a career with potentially millions of dollars is on the line.

This just isn't right at all.

First- lots of things are legal in one state but not another. Gambling. Prostitution. Things can also be legal in part of a state but not another. Hunting, for example. Washingtons law decriminalized it at the state level. It's still a federal crime. The federal government AND the state used to be able to charge it there. Now, just the Feds.

Second, there is no possible 14th amendment violation (14th is equal protection) Maybe if the law made smoking while black, or while a woman, or while a democrat, illegal. But just because its allowed in one state doesn't mean it violates your constitutional right to be charged in another (try driving 85 in Oregon and fighting your speeding ticket by saying "it's legal in Texas, so you can't make me pay this ticket.")
There could be a 4th amendment violation which means a bad search based on insufficient cause. But it wouldn't have to do with discriminating laws.

By thugs, I'm talking about guys who beat the crap out of their wives/girlfriends, etc. Yes, it is far more common amongst football players than baseball or basketball players and it's likely due to the fact the football is a violent sport. Athletes is all sports use drugs. I don't care what they put into their bodies off the field (performance enhancing drugs being the exception).

And yes, my claim is backed by facts. Just did a quick google search....

NFL players seem to be the most inclined to break the law. In the last ten years, the Cincinnati Bengals have led the NFL in arrests, at over 30 arrests. They are followed closely by the Minnesota Vikings, with about 30 arrests. The top ten list continues with the Denver Broncos, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans with about 25 arrests each. It is rounded out by the San Diego Chargers with just over 20 arrests, the Cleveland Browns, with about 20 arrests, and finally the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with just under 20 arrests.

In 2010, the NFL experienced 507 arrests of its players. Since 2000, about 1 in 45 NFL players get arrested each year and many of these arrests are the result of some form of drunken driving. The NFL players with the highest numbers of arrests are Adam “Pacman” Jones, with 6 arrests, Chris Henry and Terry “Tank” Johnson, with 4 arrests each and David Boston with 3 arrests. Since 2000, 8 NFL players have tied for the dubious distinction of having 3 arrests each.

NFL players have also served more time in jail than players in other leagues, though “Fast” Eddie Johnson, a NBA player, is serving life. MLB players have served the least time, with only Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry being convicted, serving 1 year and 11 months respectively.
