Re: Harper leaving the program
Yeah JHop, usually high level D1 type QB's throw for more than 900yds as a SR in HS and run for more than 500yds. I'm not saying this doesn't suck having him leave, but if he is determined to be a QB I doubt it's going to be with a D1 team.

Re: Harper leaving the program
I read this board all the time but don't post ever but had this question. Everything points to him going to K State but aren't most release from scholarships contingent on the player not going to a school that is on our schedule while that player still has elgibility? I find it hard to believe that CK would allow him to transfer to a school we play in a few years. I would think KU would be more likely.

Kelly has said he is releasing them to play anywhere.Duck24 wrote:I read this board all the time but don't post ever but had this question. There is rumor of another transfer on the horizon...
The way Harper moped around after plays, makes me wonder if he need to be coddled a little more. Maybe CK style didn't mesh well with Harper.

I agree with the last post, and yes it hurts depth, but I guess T Gaines and D JAckson will be forced to put up or shut up, right from the get go. So we will see. Aint College Football a Blast

Re: Harper leaving the program
ya harper did mope after plays....didnt even seem like he was trying his hardest. oh well....i guess we just move on here. we still have amazing talent at WR. depth may be a problem at QB and RB, but as i already said, harper really didnt look like he was trying that hard so he may not have done that well at either position anyway. good luck chris.

Bummer.
The kid is a gifted athlete, but it was obvious in the Civil War, Holiday Bowl and Spring Game that his heart wasn't in Eugene. If he wasn't happy as a Duck, he probably would have never given us his all.

Exactly!wheaton4prez wrote:What is the reason you have to believe that?goyellowgreen wrote:So......I'm new here, and no one really has to give merit to anything I write.....but I think giving Coach Kelly a free pass in this is a mistake.....I have reason to believe that things are NOT GOING WELL. I pray that the exodus is over, but terrified that it's not.
I'm having a hard time getting my head around this "homesickness" explanation. What exactly is he missing so much that he can't learn to be happy without it like every other college student has to? What is he going to do if/when he gets into the NFL and has to leave home? I don't know. Just seems fishy like an easy answer to avoid getting into the real issue.
I have a source that is directly involved in the situation. Wish I could say more.
I would love to know what Bellotti thinks about this, if he believes it's purely coincidence or something much deeper?

yeah this really blows. I had heard these rumors after the bowl game during the bryce brown recruiting, but assumed that he mad up his mind since he has gone through spring practice. He was such a great versatile player for us. and we definitely need those type of players right now. but i understand where hes coming from and cant be mad at him or roper and plugrad. for us its all about the ducks and the best players. But for them there looking at the next level and trying to put themselves in a position where they will be a starter and showcase their talent. good luck to them all.

Harper has submitted and been accepted to Kstate already!!
I have a feeling this has less to do with CK and more to do with Snyder. IMO.

What could be the deeper issue: Kelly doesn't coddle the players? Frankly, there were Bellotti years where the team lacked desire. I would point to the Las Vegas Bowl as biggest example of what I am talking about. I loved Bellotti and everything he gave to the program. However, if we are going to take it to another level we need a guy that will exact a little more out of the players. If the fallout is a few crybabies go running off...so be it. Think about the reasons people: 1) with Pflu his dad got let out of his contract after two years of underperformance from the wide receiving corp; 2) Roper leaves because he can't beat out Masoli; and 3) Harper is "homesick." Give me a figgn' break. I understand that sometime you have to do what is best for yourself. With Tonio he wanted to be closer to an ailing grandmother. That is an honorable reason. However, I can't beat out the #1 guy, so I am going somewhere where they'll start me. The best one is I am homesick. I spent a year abroad in Argentina and you better friggn' believe it that I got homesick. Did I use that as an excuse to not give me best effort in classes and learning the language, no?! Harper has grand delusions of being the next Freeman in the next Bill Snyder era. If there is some bitterness about his coaching style, then so be it. Hopefully we can get the recruits that want high intensity no nonsense coaching. If we can recruit at the same level, to the known system CK runs, than we should be golden.

You are talking out of your @$$, there is no deeper issue, Harper has been destined to transfer for probably 6 months now.

I didn't check my computer yesterday and I was disappointed when I read the paper this morning. This sucks a lot, but we need to just realize that a great player isn't that great if he isn't happy. (Ex. Ocho Cinco
) We are lucky to have the talent we do coming in at receiver. Now lets pray for no more transfers.

I wasn't asking what the meaning of the word homesickness is.Tray Dub wrote:It means missing your family and not being comfortable in a new environment. Yes. I've been homesick. In fact, it was when I also left the state for college when I was 18. That's one of the reasons why I question this explanation. I've been there and it wasn't anything so bad that I had to act on it and I didn't even have anything major to lose like Harper does. I have a hard time believing that anyone with any semblance of emotional stability would jeopardize a potential NFL career because they felt homesick. Harper has spent the better part of his life preparing, training, practicing for a football career. A personality that does that isn't typically one that acts mainly on homesickness.
I don't like being fed bs and I think that's what the homesickness explanation is. If Kelly and Harper didn't see eye to eye on some issue, I'd like to know the real reason. Not that I have a right to know. But, if they want to handle it privately, just leave it as unexplained. Don't feed us this homesickness bs. If Harper believed that Oregon offered him the best chances of success in a football career, I don't believe that homesickness, even a severe case of it, would have caused him to leave.
