Not surprising. We'll see what he can do. At the very least, it'll give us some experience beyond DT when Masoli/Costa leave.

Re: Hawkins
I always sort of figured that Kelly would keep him at QB since he's stated several times that he like to have 5 QBs on the roster at any one time. Once Roper transferred, it was given that Hawkins would be staying at QB.

Let's just hope it doesn't come down to Hawkins this year. I think all of our worse fears will have been realized.

Re: Hawkins
don't we still have Sam Doman who came in as a Qb? Last I knew was he was moved to TE due to the backlog @ Qb .

I'm sure he will do much better than Chris Harper.BisonDucks wrote:Let's just hope it doesn't come down to Hawkins this year. I think all of our worse fears will have been realized.
I think this Kid could be a stud! His measurables are off the chart.
Masoli proves that we don't need a "polish" QB to have success with our system.

Re: Hawkins
I've been doing some research on this kid. I am of the opinion that he was rated a 2 star because he only played QB for a single year. He's like a Jordan Kent who can throw the ball. You are right on his measurables. He's got great speed and athleticism for his size: 4.6 40, ran 22.4 200M, State Champion in 110 hurdles and triple jump, got 2nd or 3rd in the high jump.
I'm hoping that he can develop in our program because he certainly appears to have the potential.

Btw, he was injured on the triple jump. He's got great measurable but there is not way we want a raw talent running this offense, a la Harper. If we go through Masoli, Costa, Thomas and then to Hawkins, I will be scared out of my mind.Destroyer77 wrote:I've been doing some research on this kid. Re: Hawkins
Harper has insane measurables too, but in order to resemble any form of a solid D-1 QB you have to be an elite QB out of HS. If we get down to Hawkins we are in trouble, no matter the measurables, especially since he isn't even at practice yet.

Re: Hawkins
The point of my post was to say that he has the physical and mental skills to make him a great candidate for development. I also agree that if we were to be down to him as our starting QB next year, that we would be in serious trouble. He's a project for sure, but has the tools to be able to become good if he works hard.BisonDucks wrote:Btw, he was injured on the triple jump. If we can have a healthy Costa in the mix, i feel we be just fine!! In fact, if Masoili stays healthy this season and we have Costa available this year, I still think we can redshirt Thomas.

Re: Hawkins
well whenever your down to your freshman qb your in trouble.... Hopefully that wont happen this year.
I just think this guy has a better chance developing into a QB than most thought.
