I don't really get why you assume you know that he wasn't homesick, or at least not enough to leave. There's no reason to think that's not a big part of it, not even the fact that you got homesick once.
My homesickness was bad. It was a tough time. And I could have gone home with little to no consequence. But, like millions of kids in the same situation every year, I didn't. Because I understood that you have to grow up and do things that aren't always comfortable. In Harpers case, it's even more extreme because he does have a lot on the line. This move could jeopardize a multi-million dollar career in football. In fact, my doubts on this give him more credit than believing the homesickness story does. Anyone who believes that he agrees that Oregon offers his best chance at a football career but that he couldn't hack it due to homesickness must also believe that he is plumb dumb. I think that homesickness may exist like it might with every out of state player on the team. But, he isn't dumb. He has some reason to believe that he has better football opportunities elsewhere (position change, coach relationship, depth chart or something..) and that is the real reason he is leaving.
Also, I didn't assume anything, dude. If you go back and read what I wrote, you will see that I gave reasons for why I doubt that explanation beyond my experience being homesick.
