DT Interview with Cantu

One of our WRs will step up, there's no doubt about that. Could Cantu be that spark players?
I still like DJ Davis, and think he'll come up big this season.

I've always had a good feeling about Cantu. I think he'll see significant playing time this year.

Just because he's white. Please no more Cantu-Pflugrad comparisons. One is a big, fast WR & the other is a slow, small WR. Both have the same color skin though so they are autmatically the same type of playerBisonDucks wrote:He is the new bigger and better Pflu...

Agreed. People stereotype athletes ALL the time and it pisses me off to no end. How many times have you heard a baclk player get called athletic while a white player is called smart and savvy?dthomas=ddixon wrote:Just because he's white. Sorry, I know that's the kind of comment that gets threads derailed, but whatever. I think Cantu could be great for us. One of the few UO players I think we are underrating.

"My biggest strength as a receiver is my hands. I also feel that my route running and quickness are good. The biggest thing I need to work on is conditioning this summer and blocking."
-Blake Cantu
Hmmm......
They are not similar in any way. Everybody, pleaz, don't make a comparison between two white guys for fear that somone might think you're stereotyping (the fact that I'm being called out is evidence enough of your stereotyping). I think we should take this up with duckterritory. Also, Pflu wasn't slow by any means. Ran a decent 40 time this winter. However, he is characterized by good route running, quickness and his hands, which make him a good possession receiver. We lost him to a transfer. My comment was to say that I am excited about a kid that is 6'0 195 versus 5'10 174 that can slide in as our possession guy. I mean, maybe, I should've said he's our replacement for Chris Harper, right, so that I can avoid stereotyping? Hey guys, Blake can run some wildcat formations. Of course, maybe he's more like Maehl, an athletic (could've played DB) slashing slot receiver that seems to have no fear. Forget the fact that Blake plays on the outside. They're both white though

Re: DT Interview with Cantu
Having seen Cantu play on national TV, as well as in the A-A skills competition, I believe he (Potentially...)brings plenty to the table to replace what was lost in Pflu, with the exception of D-1 experience.
Only game reps can replace that.
Not sure how well he would do in 'Widcat' formations.
The Ducks do have a player on the roster who would probably do quite well with the 'Wildcat'... He is a RS frosh, currently slated to play FS.
His name is 5'10"/185 lb John Boyett. He played a little of everything for his HS team, including QB, punter, and, as a safety, was one of the leading tacklers on his team.

Re: DT Interview with Cantu
Well hopefully after his FR year we can start to compare him to Kennan Howry or Christian McLemore if that makes people happy?

I could care less who you compare him to, as long as the kid is productive...

Re: DT Interview with Cantu
I like the depth in our receiving corp - even after the losses of Pflu and Harper. I am excited to see Jordan moved to the slot as well.
