Also can't forget about the pitching keeping them in it, if they don't hold the teams down, their is no chance for these late game heroics.

no question, but i've come to expect that from this program. coming up with consistent, high-quality at bats is more of a rarity. krook pitched well yesterday, as did hunter and reed. i'm glad krook got his season's worth of wildness out of the way in game one... he went from tying an ncaa-record with 7 WP's against hawaii to only 1 yesterday.

my ideal line-up, based on a mere six outings (and will no doubt change):

2B payne (.250/.444)
RF baumgartner (.391/.462)
1B tolman (.250/.423)
DH garlick (.429/.500)
3B heineman (.179/.194) -- he's too good to not turn it around, but i have no qualms with moving him down
LF balta (.308/.375)
C graham (.333/.429)
SS karaviotis (.333/.500) / minjares (.143/.25) -- i tend to side with youth, but minjares has made some amazing defensive plays
CF hoffman (.308/.308) -- i really want to see more of grobeck because he's the future in CF, but hoffman has been clutch

Amazing with the clutch hits seemingly every game, and good pitching almost every game too!!!

spencer pitched extremely well the first four innings, then ran into a roadblock in the 5th. kind of reminded me of a jake reed start last year, except reed could usually right the ship and give us a few more quality innings. horton didn't want to mess around to see if spencer could (and it was obviously the right call to pull him, the 'pen pitched great).

7-0, and now we have the next 15 (!) at home. fullerton obviously is the highlight (next weekend), but we also get ohio state, utah, and a resurgent usc program (as well as a two-gamer with seattle, and one with portland).

Was at the game today. About 85% Oregon fans - huge crowd for an LMU game - they actually oversold their ticket allotment.

Great defense particularly from Baumgartner (unbelievable catch to save the game) and Minjares.

But man 7-0 is such a good start. I figured we'd drop one game to start he season, but really impressive start so far. Nice to see freshmen contributing early, and some clutch play in close games.

i don't disagree, and after last weekend i said that we might see jeff gold. but today's start by spencer was actually kind of encouraging. outside of one amazing no-hitter three years ago, he's never shown much of anything as a duck. he was in complete command for four innings before things caught up to him in the 5th. it was a better outing than last week, which is at least a better curve to be on than the alternative considering he hasn't done any consistent starting since he was a senior in high school four years ago. he was always going to be a work in progress this year, and if horton can spot something to correct from the 5th inning that can help him going forward, then huzzah.

I wish I could have watched the game so I could see what he can do, but based off paper and some insight from people on this forum, I'd like to see Gold or someone else get a chance at the 3rd starter position. (Or Reed :X)

BTW shoutout to Trent Paddon going 2 2/3 innings, and giving up only 1 hit. Our bullpen was awesome today.
