Darron Thomas Will Probably RS

"But Costa notes that the talk is that Thomas probably will redshirt – as long as Costa stays healthy."

"He’s ready to play," Costa says, of Thomas. "They probably want to redshirt him – it’s what’s best for the program..."

I hope they can sit him this year. Hell even wasting a red-shirt on Hawkins is better for the program than wasting Thomas' RS.

I think the only way they can redshirt Thomas is if Costa proves he is healthy and capable of performing at this level. Let's just all hope Masoli is healthy for the entire season.

We have had this discussion here couple times already. Most everyone is in agreement that Thomas needs to redshirt this season. The ultimate scary reality is that we are really thin at QB and it probably will not happen. Costa has his knee problem that keeps coming up during or before season. Wiht Roper leaving that left us extremely vulnerable at that position. As for Hawkins burning a redshrt year depending on circumstances I might agree with ya. Fall camp will be a good look at Costa's knee. We can see if can make it through fall camp and maybe make an assessment on his chances. Until fall camp opens I think its beating a dead horse to keep bringing situation up.

Redshirting DT will be key for the ducks. Allowing 2 years for DT to have a chance to run this program is immensely better than just one season (Assuming Masoli stays his senior year and remains the starter).

Let's hope our QBs can stay healthy this seasno.

Hypothetical question... I wonder how much the preaent prognosis on Costa's knee entered in to Justin Roper's choice to depart?

Not that Justin wasn't a gamer, or that he was afraid to compete, but could there have been a concern about being relegated to 3rd string, behind Masoli and potentially healthy Nate Costa?

I'm not totally surprised...They might as well since they can take it off if necessary. God willing, Costa can stay healthy and DT will have an opportunity to refine his skills and be the leader of the future.

You know, the thing for me is; more than I want to preserve DT's RS. I really want Costa to be able to play some and live out his dream. I hope he gets a few shots (not at Masoli's expense mind you) I just hope the coaches find a way to use the kid in some games because he deserves it. Got to love his attitude. He was just days away from living his dream last year. Poor guy. Go Costa!

PS getting an extra year out of DT would sure be a big bonus too :D
