Yeah, dude I'm a pretty casual fan as well and was heated and was going to call for his head, but then I checked his profile on GoDucks and he was all sorts of successful last year and even this year before today.OregonFan4Life wrote:Really? I'll take your word for it but he choked big time tonight, no doubt about that.Phenom wrote:he's actually really good...OregonFan4Life wrote:I'm not the biggest baseball fan but as of now I view Cleavinger as the Maldonado of Oregon baseball. That was bad.

Well hopefully he continues to be successful and doesn't repeat this type of performance again. Man that sucked seeing that.Phenom wrote:Yeah, dude I'm a pretty casual fan as well and was heated and was going to call for his head, but then I checked his profile on GoDucks and he was all sorts of successful last year and even this year before today.OregonFan4Life wrote:Really? According to the story on OregonLive, Gold told Horton after the 7th that he was gassed and had no choice but to bring in a reliever.oregontrack wrote:the only conceivable answer I can think of would be if gold went to him and said he can't go. but there was absolutely no sign of trouble to end the 7th. this is not horton's first rodeo. flabbergasted.

Maybe it is just me being just a real casual fan of baseball but it seems to me one huge obstacle Oregon has is beating a good team. I do not expect Oregon to sweep every good team but their record against good opponents this year is horrible. It is less than .500. Or just about that at best. Oregon will never be as great as Oregon State in baseball if they can not beat the good teams any more than what they are doing. I want to see Oregon get there for no other reason than it is Oregon and the school I support. It is getting discouraging seeing them struggle though consistently against the good teams.

I just don't expect Oregon or any other visiting team to win many games in Corvallis due to OSU just owning their homefield over the past 5 years. I think a local newscast said they've lost only 14 home games since 2009.

this and last year, actually. i thought our poor w/l record against top 50 teams last year was going to cost us another national seed, but we got one anyway (for all the good it did us). sadly, it's carried over to this year. in 2012 we beat virtually everybody with a pulse (save osu), but that trend died quickly thereafter. this year we really haven't had too many opportunities, but we have indeed fallen on our faces in both series against top 25 teams (washington and osu). fullerton looked like a failed attempt in that regard at the time, but turns out they're quite mediocre.GoDucksIn09 wrote:Maybe it is just me being just a real casual fan of baseball but it seems to me one huge obstacle Oregon has is beating a good team. i did NOT expect to take the series in corvallis (i predicted a sweep when i attempted to forecast the season two weeks ago), but a bullpen implosion cost us the series in seattle, and another one cost us from saving face and at least winning one this weekend. shades of 2011. remember that year? great rotation (anderson, boer, jones/keudell) and pretty good hitting (pulfer/healy/jones), but a horrific bullpen kept us out of the postseason. we've been spoiled the last few years with thorpe/cleavinger dominating the 8th, and sherfy closing down the 9th. it's not so automatic anymore.
anyway, in my forecast (in the riverside thread? i think?) i wrote out what i thought we needed to do to host a regional, and we're still a game up on those projections by way of sweeping wazzu (i had us going 2-1). losing three in a row this weekend sucks, but it was not at all unexpected.

I just think that the injuries to the rotation have cost Oregon much needed depth in its bullpen. Losing Irvin and now Krook have forced 2 likely bullpen contributors (Paddon and Gold) into starting roles when they were just as (if not more) valuable in the bullpen.oregontrack wrote:this and last year, actually. i thought our poor w/l record against top 50 teams last year was going to cost us another national seed, but we got one anyway (for all the good it did us). sadly, it's carried over to this year. in 2012 we beat virtually everybody with a pulse (save osu), but that trend died quickly thereafter. this year we really haven't had too many opportunities, but we have indeed fallen on our faces in both series against top 25 teams (washington and osu). fullerton looked like a failed attempt in that regard at the time, but turns out they're quite mediocre.GoDucksIn09 wrote:Maybe it is just me being just a real casual fan of baseball but it seems to me one huge obstacle Oregon has is beating a good team. All excuses aside, The Beavers just OWNED the Ducks this weekend.....We don't need to like it, but its the way it is.....In the sport of Baseball, we are The Little Brother in this state.....
In most everything else, especially the money makers, the Ducks more than hold their own.....Let the Beavers own us in Tiddely Winks....Gotta give em something.....lol.......

Re: Oregon @ Oregon State (Beavers sweep series 3-0)
Ducks just don't have enough offensive fire power against good pitching. 1 run, 2 runs, and 1 run. One of those runs was off an error. So really, 3 runs in 3 games. We won't last in post season hitting like that.
I know Beavs pitching is some of the best, but still... Gotta be able to put a 3 or 4 run game once out of three.

I wonder if Phil regrets his donation to OSU?nogerO wrote:Horton's Kryptonite.
