Re: Why Oregon Will Defeat Boise State
Even though its the first game of the season I see another Holiday Bowl type of performance from Masoli and a similar score. As stated above we won't be one dimensional on Offense this year so not only will the BSU defense be back on their heels but I just don't see them outscoring us. I predict a couple new comers to have big games and make an early mark.

And the Broncos and Ducks had an equal amount of time to prepare. The Ducks simply didn't play well on defense - especially in regards to the play action fake, and the offense was not at full power due to injury and inexperience at QB. As long as Masoli and Blount are healthy and our offensive line is playing pretty well and the defense doesn't play similary to last year, this game will be different. The Ducks will win by 10. Our D let us down last year and when Masoli went down, C. Harper was not prepared to lead the offense. Boise was a good team and they will be again this year. But playing at their best they are no match for an Oregon team playing at their best.
The Ducks will never win anything of importance as long as NA is calling the shots on defense. I'm shocked that CK didn't show him the door. Maybe he's waiting a while before he makes too many waves. NA is simply a liability.

I want to see another ASU/CW/Holiday Bowl performance from Masoli... Coupled with the kind of WR performances we glimpsed from guys like Paysinger, Parker, Howry, and McLemore!
Autzen Stadium... Where great teams go to die...Hard!

That is pretty harsh, I do believe the OSU & Bowl games were of importance & the defense did their part. All thie calls for N.A. to depart have no back up plan for a new D.C. that could step in and work around an offense that gets off the field as quickly as ours.nogerO wrote:

Ducks blow it open to win 31-17. Over under on me getting in a fight 3rd quarter.

Re: Why Oregon Will Defeat Boise State
If Masoli was in, the game would be closer and therefore they wouldn't be playing prevent defense. People seem to forget that we only started catching up when they switched to a prevent D. Also, everyone seems to be under the assumption that Masoli would play as well as he did at the end of the season, which is laughable. He was still learning the offense.wheaton4prez wrote:I agree that our defense didn't do well in that game. I think it was an overly aggressive scheme designed to focus on Ian Johnson. And that was well exploited by Peterson.
However, I disagree that we would still have lost if Masoli had stayed healthy. We almost won the game with Chris Harper throwing 2 interceptions, going 3-and-out how many times and Thomas playing a small part of the game. I don't think it's even remotely plausible that Masoli wouldn't have played even marginally enough better (one score) to win that game. Remember that sustaining a drive on offense takes away from the opposing offenses chances to score.

Re: Why Oregon Will Defeat Boise State
The prevent D legend is BSU internet poster spin.
Oregon's first two TD drives with Thomas in were against their base 4-2-5 defense with them rushing 4 or 5 (usually 5) every down. On every play but 2 in those drives BSU had 11 men within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage.
With Thomas eating them alive they stayed 4-2-5 but rushed 4 exclusively. They backed their 2 free safeties off to 12-15 yards, and backed their 2 linebackers up a couple yards. This is hardly a prevent, more like a regular passing down defense for most teams, but it was more effective as Oregon only scored on one out of their last three possessions once BSU backed off to a more normal pass defense.
If BSU packs their defense as tight as they did for 3-1/2 quarters last year, Masoli and/or Costa will have 40 pass attempts, and the BSU Safeties will have nightmares of seeing the back of Ed Dickson and Jeff Maehl's jerseys. I doubt they will do that though. I suspect this year they will challenge Oregon's new O-line to open running lanes.

I'm not sure why you are under the assumption of what anyone's unstated assumptions are.goducks75 wrote:If Masoli was in, the game would be closer and therefore they wouldn't be playing prevent defense. I don't think Masoli would have been at his end-season form. He wouldn't have needed to be in order to be in better form than Chris Harper and Darron Thomas for 3-4 drives. It's not like BSU blew us out. Playing good enough offense to score one more time than we did or keep the offense on the field long enough to prevent one BSU score would have been enough to win the game. There is no doubt in my mind that Masoli would have done that.

Add up the missed FG’s and xtra points and the Ducks would have won that game. Watched 3 quarters of Boise game on O-Zone, what struck me is how fast Boise was sideline to sideline, yet vulnerable up the middle. I’m looking forward to a Kelly trick play right off the bat on offense. 45- 17 Ducks.

Re: Why Oregon Will Defeat Boise State
I do think Oregon would have won the game with Masoli but the whole thing is irreleven since it is the past. It is like saying we would have won the BCS with Dixon healthy. Both are true but both irrelevent since that did not happen and is frivolous to dwell on it. I also think Allioti or as I call him Allow A Lot E is a liability but Kelly has decided to retain him and think this will have to be the year he shines or will be shown the door. As I said earlier Boise State is a good team.. they will end up in the top 15 this year possibly the top 10. We MUST show up and play a good game. Injuries are a part of the game and that guy that made the dirty hit should have been tossed..I think the refs well aware they will have to take early control of the game and not allow things like that to happen again.

Re: Why Oregon Will Defeat Boise State
The missed opportunity in the 4th quarter when the Ducks had the ball deep in Bronco territory is also overlooked; always felt that if the Ducks had attempted a run play instead of 4 straight incompletions the Ducks might have pulled that rally out.
Personally always felt that we spotted the Broncos 3 quarters of play and nearly beat them. If the Ducks play both sides of the ball for the entire game BSU's streak ends.

The ducks win because they are going to be better than they were when they played them this time last year.
The ducks expect to win ALL their games.. I don't think that is a complete pipe dream either. Why not?
