Alamo Bowl to be new Pac-10 number two bowl
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4395568
Apparently the Alamo offered $3,000,000 while the Holiday looks to be set at 2.35 million
Nice is the fact that the Alamo is a January Bowl game...the matchup would still be against the Big 12, and apparently the rest of the bowls would just drop down a notch...

This is pretty exciting stuff to see. We have had a new commissioner for all of a few months and already he's doing more than ol' Tom Hansen did in 5 years.
I'm still a bit confused with how the teams would match up between conferences now.

Stewart Mandel-"From a purely aesthetic standpoint, I much prefer to watch a good spread-rushing offense over a traditional Power-I offense, and Oregon's has been the most fun by far for the past several years. It's fast, its precise, and when Chip Kelly has the right quarterback (Dixon, Masoli) at the helm, the possibility of someone ripping off a 60-yard run exists on nearly every play."

I would assume since our half of the contracts are up, that more than likely the other contracts are up, so we may see some changes to who goes where.bigsugarduck wrote:This is pretty exciting stuff to see. I like that arrangement a lot more. The Holiday Bowl is okay but not for a #2 team in a conference. A second-place team from a BCS conference should play in a bowl game that is on or near New Year's Day. It now looks like 2 of the conference's bowl games are against Big 12 teams, which could help create some rivalries. Also, it's about time the Sun Bowl is for the #4 team since the location isn't the greatest and the team the Pac-10 plays against isn't always on par with the higher rated Pac-10 team.

The BIG XII #5 goes to the Alamo bowl now. because the Big XII #3 goes to the Cotton Bowl every year since the Big XII always gets 2 BCS teams,

I certainly hope its not #2 vs. #5.....thats would make me vomit.....I would like for once if we could play roughly equivalent teams.

I'm not too thrilled about the #5 either, but it would be an easy win for us, and that's good enough for me

It says in that ESPN article.
Rose: Pac-10 #1 vs Big 10 #1
Alamo: Pac-10 #2 vs Big 12 #3
Holiday: Pac-10 #3 vs Big 12 #4
Rose: Pac-10 #1 vs Big 10 #1
Alamo: Pac-10 #2 vs Big 12 #3
Holiday: Pac-10 #3 vs Big 12 #4

Even if it is against the #5 team from the Big 12, I like it. The Alamo Bowl is usually a good one, and it bumps the sun bowl down.

This is good in terms of money and the date on which the game is played, but the location and venue is a downgrade, in my opinion. The Holiday Bowl was more convenient for Duck fans to get to (particularly for the many that live in California) and playing the game outdoors in Qualcomm Stadium is a heck of a lot better than playing indoors in the Alamodome.

I wish there was a bowl game where the SEC and Pac-10 got to battle yearly.

It's gonna suck for USC to have to play in a dome while we're in their neck of the woods playing in the Rose Bowl.
