One word... Unacceptable.

How incredibly disappointing.
He punched Garrett Embry in one of the videos I saw. Not good. Not good at all. He has to prove himself both on and off the field because he hasn't shown me s**t.

I think he should get a 2nd chance now that I've slept a little bit but he's walking on very thin ice right now. Suspension, anger management, and a legitimate apology to his teammates, coaches, the university, and its fans should all be actions that he takes within the next few weeks. He still has to prove to me that he's legitimately sorry and that he is committed to the team. He looked pretty out of shape last night...

I have such mixed feelings about this. The trash talk, no big deal. He should be expecting it. "who whooped who's ass?" is not a reason to punch someone. How much trash talk are putting up with today from others? We're not in the heat of the moment but still. I didn't see the hit on the shoulder so I can't comment on that. Was it a tap, a punch? I have no idea.

However, going after your own teammates and fans is completely unacceptable. Regardless of what fans say (even if it is racial, and I'm black) you never go after fans as a player. And going after teammates just causes a rift in the locker room.

I think it's apples and oranges compared to Vick. Blount can still play in the NFL, it just might be hard for him to get on. Getting kicked off the Ducks might be the kiss of death, but then again it might not. The NFL can obviously forgive a lot if you're worthy to play.

Personally, I would like to see him suspended for 6 games. I think that would send a good message while still giving him a second chance.

In all fairness to Blount, since you didn't see it I'll offer my opinion, I'm not sure I wouldn't have reacted similarly towards the Bronco player. The guy was in his face, smirking, and did shove him on the shoulder. The best way to put it, is that he was so intrusive that Peterson had come over to pull his own player away when Blount hit him.

Both should be punished. If I was Peterson, I would suspend Hout for at least one game. This could spin out of control for the Broncos if they don't punish their guy. They will have a PR situation on their hands and Oregon will come out of this situation in not too bad of shape if Peterson doesn't step up. I work in PR, so I have some thoughts.

Just announced on SportsCenter, no suspension for Hout. Peterson will meet with him and provide some ice for his chin.

Vick wasn't allowed to play for several years and had to sit in jail. Blount would continue to get a free education and just not get to play on the Oregon Ducks. He hit one of his teammates and sucker punched a BSU guy. He made our team look like s***. He already showed he's not dedicated to this team in the past offseason. Get him off the team.

A free education?

You need to understand the work that is put in to play a game of football that ends up raising millions of dollars for the University and for the NCAA. We as fans do not do the accounting, but I can tell you that Blount has made ten-fold times more money for the University than what his scholarship pays out. You don't have the perspective to reserve judgment. So, I wish you'd stop pandering.

Haha, who am I pandering to exactly? It's not like I give a rat's ass what people think about me. I'm here to discuss Duck sports with people. And why I don't have the perspective to have an opinion is beyond me. But way to make ad hominem attacks and mostly ignore the issue.

You're right though, it's not a free education. But he's still lucky as hell to be able to play a sport and receive an education he doesn't pay for. It's not like the school owes him anything. If he's hurting the team, he shouldn't be on it. Simple as that.

At least he apologized for his actions, and the Boise St player taunting him is certainly to blame has well. Don't get me wrong, what he did was awful, but I'm not sure it warrants kicking him off of the team. Supsend him for a certain amount of games.

I am really glad did not see this. I was working last night and had gave up on Oregon's chances and turned the thing off. Now I have seen it and watched it on College Football Live and as much as I am a Duck Fan and think Blount is a great RB this is my stance. The Ducks need to send a very loud and clear message to Blount and make a point to him this is not tolerated in any event.. whether taunted or not. I agree with the commentators.. the Boise State guy taunted him and he needs to be talked to and maybe serve half a game suspension as it is not acceptable.. but what Blount did.. could be construed as criminal and that is a huge difference. There is taunting in most sports.. its part of the game like it or not. If you can not handle that.. then should not be playing game. If it was up to me this would be my message to Blount.. You are hereby suspended for 4 games. That means missing the Utah and Cal game.. 2 really big games.. but the punishment must be severe and swift and the university must make it clear to Pac 10 this is not tolerated here under any circumstance. It is better to give Blount a very strict and harsh suspension than for the Pac 10 and national media to think we being easy on him because he is an athlete. I think 4 games is substantial. Given the bad light he put Oregon in I believe it is deserving. I worry bout what recruits think now. This is the last thing Oregon needed.

^^Ditto guys...our decisions in life affect us and most of us aren't in the spot light and in some cases we have people who protect us when things go wrong. Blount is young and simply lost his mind for about 5-10 minutes, I would like to see him prove himself and remain on the team, if possible! Man what a horrible night!

Couldn't have said it better myself. This isn't Eastern Vermont Technical institute we're talking about him missing here, it's all major BCS teams. 2 of which are highly ranked. Locking him up and throwing away the key (i.e. kicking him off the team) would be a little excessive in my mind but at the same time we have to make a statement that this kind of crap is absolutely unacceptable. That's strike two for him right there if we count his earlier suspension from the team. He is walking on VERRRRRRY thin ice right now assuming he will not be kicked off the team. He owes a major apology to the coaches and players (particularly Garrett Embry since Blount punched him too). I'll be interested to see how all of this plays out.

MFRDuckFan wrote:I have had some time to digest this over the sleepless night I had. Here are just a few thoughts.

1. I am not condoning what he did, BUT.....take a look at the video before the punch if you can find it. Amazingly, all video seems to only show Blounts punch to Hout. Hout shoved on Blount and mouthing off at the same time Peterson is visibly trying to restrain Hout. This is just before the punch. Obviously, whatever Hout said set the coach off enough to restrain the player. I am putting myself in Blounts shoes and I am standing in the midst of Broncos and someone hits me on the shoulder while mouthing off. I'm not so sure my reaction wouldn't be the same. Again, I am not condoning what he did, but I understand it. Even Peterson himself was interviewed right after and was talking about emotions of the game because he knew his player was equally at fault.

2. Let's try to see the bigger picture here. If you kick him off the team, what happens to him? It's not like he took drugs or stole from other players, he reacted in the heat of the moment. Again, I am not condoning what he did. Do you completely toss this young man's life under the bus for that? The responsibility of the school is to educate our children and help them be successful. If you kick him off the team, this alters his life forever. Seriously. He loses his scholarship and has to leave school. This young man is on the verge of going left or right. This incident can send him down a sad road. I say you suspend him for 3 games, have him attend anger management classes AND do community service.

To me, you'll make more of an impact by helping him through this vs. just tossing him out with the garbage. Of course, I am a mother and cannot imagine what his mother must be going through. I say help the young man out. That speaks bigger of the program than just cutting him loose.
Well said. My thoughts exactly.
