C R E A M P U F F' S!!!!!!!!!!!!
With the exception of a few Top 25 teams, its making me almost sick watching these top teams playing CREAMPUFF's to begin their season. Then they get all these accolades about how awsome they are by all the networks! Don't get me wrong, we got our asses beat fair and square thursday nite. With the current BCS system, it just does NOT pay off too play a ranked opponent your very first game of the season IMO. I would have loved too play Charleston Southern or a Portland St. too start the season. The first game is always the most dangerous because theres going too be problems and kinks too workout on the offense/defense! Florida gets too start off with a glorified scrimmage . . . . smart program! Note to Oregon: begin the season with a CREAMPUFF!!!!!!!

I absolutely agree. What other team would agree to play their opening game at Boise State?

I had this thought yesterday. Does anyone think a ranked team will agree to play at Boise, let alone play them? Unless they move into a BCS conference, it's a lose lose situation for any ranked BCS team to play there.

No, I don't, and it's not like Oregon would have really gained more respect if they had won that game anyway. With the exception of like 4 top 25 teams, everyone else opened the season at home against lousy teams. Not to mention Oregon has Purdue and Utah coming up. At the end of the season, nobody cares about your out of conference schedules.

I agree ... I think we need to stop playing a difficult OOC schedule until the BCS rules change. The Ducks could have really used an easy win to start this season in order to build up their confidence.duckgrad99 wrote:stewbertwilloughby wrote:I had this thought yesterday. And be overlooked at the end by the East-Coast biased media and pollsters for not playing anyone "of significance". Oregon did what it always does, it travels and picks the good fights. We win more than we lose, and the losses hurt more because they're earlier and more exposed, but I'd rather be an Oregon alum talkin' about our difficult 11-1/10-2/9-3/8-4 season than some SEC jerk-off about his school's 12-0 season with the likes of wins over Troy and Marshall. It sucks but it's Oregon's way.

Re: C R E A M P U F F' S!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's because they have a real good chance at losing. Look at Ohio State at home to Navy, it was a 2 point conversion away from being tied. I have a feeling Oregon won't be scheduling Boise State again along with teams like Utah, BYU, etc. anymore because if the Ducks win it's not that big of a deal because they are mid-major teams but if they lose it is a pretty big deal, whereas the perception is different when Oregon plays teams like Tennessee, Georgia, Texas A&M and lose because even when they are not any good they are still top tier BCS programs. Maybe Oregon should do the same because they keep losing to the "BCS Busters".

I think Georgia/Oklahoma St. is a pretty good opener for both schools.

Actually there are a few solid openers
BYU - Oklahoma
Alabama -Virginia Tech
Maryland - Cal
Washington - LSU (well at least not ez for UW)
Navy - OSU (turned out to be a bit more trouble than OSU figured going in)
The U - FSU
Ok, I"m done.

I think it would be in our best interest to at least start scheduling 1-2 cream puff games in years where we're obviously doing significant rebuilding. I'm not saying that we would have beaten BSU, but it definitely would have helped us to get an easier game or two under our belt and let the lines gel a bit before facing a talented Boise team.
My two cents.

I am sure the Boise State series was scheduled 6-7 or more years ago so who would have known how good they were going to be.

Re: C R E A M P U F F' S!!!!!!!!!!!!
I respect Oregon for playing a tough OOC schedule. That being said, if they are going to play a tough schedule, the first game should be a team that they will beat. Even if it is not a decisive win (Ohio State-Navy) they can work out the problems that are inherent in a first game. Eight games into the season noone will remember who they played their first game but they will see wins and losses. (Well, this year everyone will remember who we played first -- but not for the reasons we want.) It was idiotic to play BSU for a first game and to play them on the road, well, that is at least one step beyond idiotic. If the Ducks feel compelled to schedule a tough OOC team first, it better be against Florida, LSU, Texas, etc. At least then they gain more with a win and lose a whole lot less with a loss.

I disagree about playing cupcakes to start off the season. I wouldn't mind playing a BCS team that is a little down like Purdue to start off, but you do NOT learn anything about your team when you play Citadel and Wofford. Honestly, I was very confident going into Boise and as crappy as we played, still should have beat them. I'd play them there again. It was us that lost. It was actually good to get BSU on opening weekend, because they were very flawed as well in handling the ball. Especially for a team like Oregon, if we did somehow go 12-0 in a season, we'd need a strong OOC to make it into the NC game..the Pac-10 ust isn't respected enough. Finally, it makes for some good football. This was one of the boring-est weekends I can remember..time for other teams to man up.
