Am I the only one that noticed how many times Bob Davey said that during the game?

I saw it too, to begin with sideline management was terrible regarding substitutions which is a staff problem. Supposedly the team practices in a fast pace but the Ducks were slow in reading the sets and responding quickly. BSU's tempo kept the D off balanced, part of that might have been fatigue.

I honestly did not pay attention to the issue much in the first quarter being a bit jazzed that football had finally started.

Yeah, seeing the lb's bumping into each other, appearing confused about who they needed to cover wasn't exactly awe inspiring. Yet, in a way it was like a warm blanket... comforting to know that no matter what is said, a Nick Aliotti defense doesn't really change very much.

Yes our defense looked a little frazzled at times, but consider the source of those comments. Bob Davie is one of the worst announcers on ESPN. Must be a Notre Dame thing.

For anyone complaining about confusion on the defense...

try running 10 miles and then taking the SAT and see how you do compared to not running 10 miles

They didn't appear confused at the beginning of the game

Defense played quite well IMO. If it wasn't for 2 absurd pass interference calls, they would have had 1 more turnover (INT by Thurmond) and then would have gotten off the field another time.

I'm wondering why I saw Tukuafu on the sideline without a helmet during the last 6 minutes of the game that the defense was on the field.

Yes they did, BSU's first drive started on the 4 yard line and they marched all the way down the field converting on 3rd and 4th down several times. The defense was bad from the beginning.

Am I the only one that remembers this?!?!?!?

I agree with you, and to be honest, I'm still more worried about the defense than the offense. No Chung, Byrd, Reed, etc is huge.

Thank you duckgrad99, I am so tired of hearing how good the defense did after spending 3/4 of the game yelling at our defense because they were letting the WRs get open on every play and missing tackles because they weren't wrapping guys up. I understand they were tired, but they weren't tired on that first drive (which was abysmal) and the fact that they were tired was because THEY COULDN'T STOP BSU'S OFFENSE.

Also, let me point out that BSU's offense strength is their passing game yet they only passed the ball 9 times in the second half. That is why it looks like our defense did well if you look at the numbers ... but numbers lie.

A great defense would probably stop he drive, I hardly anticipatd a great "d' from the Ducks and I figured that BSU had a comppetent enough offense andwould be able to drive with the initial set of scripted plays. How the Ducks adjusted was a bigger concern. Had you told me BSU would score only 19 points, I would have assumed a victory.

The offense is the bigger concern, at least something was generated in the second half and the game still seemed salvagable, but the lost opportunities and miscues cost us.

We line up two guys against 3 of them in the center of the field and send everyone else on the outside. Ya, think they're gonna run it in, or what?

That is another thing that has been pissing me off, no bitching at the defense for not getting off the field. Just as much as the offense couldn't stay on it, the defense couldn't get off it. They gave up long drive after long drive. They never really forced turnovers, just had one's handed to them after BSU got a first down or just snapped it. It was pathetic. And don't take this as an I hate the Ducks now, I will be there Saturday and have watched the games on replay 3 times already just to watch the Ducks play, it's just annoying listening to people praise the defense when they were just as bad as the offense

Thank you! This has been my point. Everyone talks about how good the defense did considering how long they were on the field and how tired that must have made them. But that is completely ignoring the fact that IT IS THEIR JOB TO GET THEMSELVES OFF THE FIELD BY STOPPING THE OTHER TEAM'S OFFENSE. BSU's first offensive drive took 8 minutes and 41 seconds off the clock while going 84 yards down the field. It started on the 4 yard line due to an AWESOME 48 yard punt. We got BSU to 3rd and 5 on the 9 yard line and allowed them to complete a 7 yard pass. We then gave up an 11 yard pass, a 14 yard pass, a 2 yard run and a 16 yard pass. A few plays later we had them to 4th and 1 but we gave up a 6 yard run for the first down. Then we got them into a 3rd and 10 only to give up a 25 yard pass for another 3rd down conversion.

So ... what about that drive tells you that our defense was good? Remember that this was the first drive of the game, so the "tired" excuse doesn't work. What I saw was more of the same "bend but don't break" crap we always see.

I was watching Colorado vs Colorado State tonight and towards the end of the game, when it was obvious that CSU was going to win, the announcers commented on how they had switched to a "bend but don't break" defense in order to not give up a big play that could give CU a chance to get back in the game and all I could think to myself was "well that makes sense ... but we run that ALL GAME LONG ... WHY?!?!?!"
