The only way to get something changed is to keep the discussion alive. Here is what the sign will look like

LET HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN
CAST THE FIRST STONE
FAIR PUNISHMENT FOR BLOUNT IS 6 GAMES
MAY HE SIN NO MORE!

I really don't care if no one signs it....I just want the debate to go on and for Chip to feel a little pressure to reduce the punishment especially since that tool Hout only got a talking to.

It's NOT going to be changed. Too bad if you or anybody else doesn't like it. All your silly little petition will do is draw attention to an ugly matter that had to be dealt and needs to be moved on from.

We all have SIN as you say. The same good book that you're quoting from also is filled with the concept that there has to be consequences for our actions. Whether Mr Haut is ever punished by BSU or anybody else is of no consequence to Oregon or LGB.

You want to argue 6 games or something on along those lines. Who are you to suggest that? We have an AD & HC who are in a much better position - far more qualified - to see the whole picture re this situation and LGB himself. I personally would have rather seen a suspension for a portion of the season, but I also accept the decision as a fan and alumni because it's fool hearty and serves no purpose to beat my chest and shout UNFAIR. Time to move on and support this staff & team. Keeping the dialog open is fine in this format, but taking it to the streets as you're suggesting is counter productive.

That has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever heard of. Right now, though we can disagree amongst ourselves re the Blount suspension, etc. the last thing this team needs is more negative publicity. Kelly undoubtedly is dealing with a fair % of his own players who likely feel the suspension was too severe. Players tend to stick together and they likely feel that Haut got what he deserved (the punch) and LGB didn't. However, the decision re LGB's status was a no win situation for this staff and University. The HC sometimes has to make decisions that aren't going to be popular with his players, but in the long term, and that's what is most important, he has to do what best for the whole program, not just how it affects 1 person or whether or not some folks aren't going to like it.

I say this staff needs our support whether we agree with its rendering re Blount. Passing out some silly petition, which won't change anything re the decision, will only serve to add fuel to the unfortunate fire that is burning right now.
I disagree completely. Your argument is like saying that all dissent is un-American. Nobody has to agree with everything the program does in order to support it's success.

In this case, it may not prove to be the best move for the program. As you point out yourself, it is probably unpopular amongst the players. With Blount being around all season at practice, that issue can only become worse. It could cause serious morale issues on the team, alienating players from the staff and affecting whether or not potential recruits feel that our coaches are "players coaches".

I think that the severity of the penalty served to Blount is an egregious error and an injustice to a member of the team. I don't support the brand. I support the team. And that consists of players, one of which is LeGarrette Blount. I am happy to learn that someone is organizing their disapproval of this and will be happy to sign.

You have no basis for questioning anyones support for the team because of their vocal disagreement with Blount's punishment.

You don't know that it's not going to be changed. I would agree that it's highly unlikely. But, you never know.

Who are we to suggest that? Fans of the program that support it financially. If the poll on this site is any indication, the majority of fans thought that a partial season suspension was more appropriate than the entire season.

Who are you to decide for other people when it's time to accept things and move on? If you think it is, good for you. Be quiet about it if that is your choice. There are others that disagree and there are many purposes that a petition would serve that are not foolhardy. It would let the coaching staff know that fans disagree, possibly giving them pause for reflection during future decisions. It let's LeGarrette Blount know that fans support him. It let's the players know that fans are behind their interests rather than just the brand. Finally, it doesn't seem likely, but it could encourage staff to have a change of heart at some point if Blount keeps in line.

Hey Wheaton, my last word on the subject to you & others is the following quote from Kelly's news conference earlier today. Time to support this team, this staff, and move on.

"“One of the things the president (University of Oregon President Richard Lariviere) and (Athletic Director) Mike (Bellotti) asked me was, 'Will you feel the same way tomorrow (and) will you feel the same way a month from now?' You’re always going to be judged on the decision you made, (but) there’s no going back and I truly believe I made the right decision. It’s about moving forward, our football team, our players, our coaching staff, LeGarrette, everybody.

“It’s what happened, it happened and you can’t take it back. (It’s) how we move forward and put it (the team) into a positive situation. I was very fortunate, and I want to thank a lot of people who reached out and I had a chance to visit with.”

I'm not going to forget about a player on the team (or who I believe is unjustly forced off) because it's convenient for Kelly for me to do so.

The very least Kelly can do is make himself available to explain his decision to the fans that make the program possible to begin with. Most of us aren't personal friends with Blount. But, via the media, interviews, games, etc. we have gotten to know the kid to a degree. Who is Kelly to decide for us that we should just pretend that none of that happened now?

I don't see this punishment as unjust at all. If Blount had only punched Hout and then walked to the locker room, maybe a long suspension would be appropriate, but he didn't. Blount punched his own TEAMMATE twice, he fought against coaches and security and then went after fans. Maybe a fan had a chair in a threatening manner (no body there, including Duck staff and coaches have said anything about a chair), but he still shouldn't have rushed the crowd. That opens it up for the crowd to defend themselves, and that's why Blount got hit (maybe, you can't really tell from the video).

Kelly wants a new era of football at Oregon. He wants his players to play at the highest level and conduct themselves at the highest level.

Legions, you obviously have not watch the video either. It is fully documented that the fan does have a chair, it is also documented that he was assaulted by another fan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33yk_QzfyiI please watch it before making more comments.

wiseforexinvestor, I've been around long enough to know a troll when I see one. This will be the last time a directly speak to you.

If you seem to believe that a fan assaulted Blount without provocation and another fan had a chair aimed at Blount the burden of proof is on you to show it. Are there any witnesses, including Oregon players or staff, that can support Blount's statements about the chair? If there was no chair, then the fan that may of hit him did so in self defense (because Blount rushed him).

He was given a very stiff punishment, but he still has the opportunity to stay in shape, get his degree, and pursue an NFL career. No matter what ESPN says, if he can play at the NFL level a team will take a chance with him.

Legion. You're right that he did those other things. But, I don't think that the way the video has been presented does justice to how it all happened.

If you can, check out the video shown on O-live. It all happened pretty quickly. Blount shouldn't have done any of it. But, it's not like these were all seperate, unrelated incidents that occurred between time to think things through. From the time Blount was hit by Hout and then dragged into the locker room, it couldn't have taken more than 60 seconds.

None the less, all of those events did happen. It's my person opinion that each of those events (separate) would require short suspensions. That fact that they were all combined makes it impossible for anything less than a full season, or nearly full season suspension. I would have liked to see him able to play in the Civil War and the bowl game, I think that would give him motivation to stick with the team and football.

The fan incident is very interesting. I have no doubt the reason that happened was because of the Jumbotron looping the video and it's too bad that Boise State is allowing it to slide with internal punishment. As far as I could tell from the video, the "Guy With The Chair" didn't raise it until Blount charged, and the "Guy That Punched Him" is a giant vagina that waited until Blounts arms were held back before he punched him. But if Blount didn't charge, then the fan wouldn't be in the position to hit him.

I'm off to the Fair, I'll check this thread later tonight.

Calling me a troll for pointing out that you obviously had not watch the video or watched it closely enough it absolutely hilarious. Sorry for offending you, it just pisses me off when people chime in with their two cents when they haven't at least done an once of homework. Hope you didn't get molested by any of the carnies.

Shameless plug but, For a minor donation of 1 million dollars to the DAF (ducks athletic fund) I bet you can get to tell Chip your point of view and hear his reasons for the decision the university made regarding Blount. Not only can you sleep better at night but you might even help the university reach our common goals ;)

^^^^^^

I think Chip is a little busy right now - getting a team ready to play in 4 1/2 days.
