Nice. So much for the Nolan and Wilcox rumors all over Twitter that were a lock

Very good recruiter and if you had told me when the search started that Oregon would end up with Hoke, I'd be pretty excited.

Unfortunately, it sounds like Oregon struck out with Nolan, who would have been an absolute home run hire. Hoke is a very good recruiter and DL coach - has never been a DC. Gotta wonder if Oregon wasn't offering as much money as what's been reported.

The talk on DT was that he wanted to bring in an unnamed asst.

Fairly confident 247 was guessing on all the Nolan stuff.

Can anyone imagine a Duck team with a #17 defense like he had at Michigan?

I am happy with this hire. I think pendegast was more of a sure thing and Nolan would have been exceptional but I think home will energize our defense and I think has more potential than a Prendergast but more bust potential also.

And really, that's all we need. Should of won it all in 2012.

I liken this hiring to Alabama bringing in lane kiffin. A disgraced head coach who wasn't able to run a ship on his own.for a national power. As with Bama though, they now have a great offensive coordinator who really has to prove himself before he is handed another coaching gig. If hoke succeeds, he still is a bit marked and we end up keeping him for longer than we should.

Hoke can coach as long as he has talent. He had good seasons at Ball State, San Diego State and Michigan before things went south in Ann Arbor. I'd be shocked if he's around for more than 2-3 years, though it's hard to say.

It's funny people are mad about is hiring a former HC at Michigan, based on two, or really one bad year. Yet last year people wanted a guy to be HC who was even worse at Michigan in Rich Rod. I think Hoke will do a solid job, and I expect our recruiting on the D side to take a uptick.
