Kelly standing behind Masoli...
http://oregon.scout.com/2/901144.html
Kelly indicated Sunday afternoon to beat reporters that Masoli's play was inconsistent, but the junior quarterback has had inconsistent spells in the past. When asked if there would be competition for the starting job this week in practice Kelly indicated that there is competition "every week" in practice.
As reporters continued to press Kelly regarding the quarterback situation and if Masoli was kept in the game because of the success of the running game, Kelly responded by saying, "I stayed with Jeremiah because he is our starting quarterback and gives us the best chance to win."

If he can make more throws like the pass to Maehl (and we know he can because he did it last year quite a bit) then he will shut up all of the naysayers.

Exactly. Did he just lose his ability to throw over the off-season? Obviously not, our fans just lost their ability to reason & think.echo31 wrote:If he can make more throws like the pass to Maehl (and we know he can because he did it last year quite a bit) then he will shut up all of the naysayers.

Re: Kelly standing behind Masoli...
I may be losing reasoning skills, but I have watched Masoli closely this year and he looks terrible most of the time in the passing game. We are now three games in, so if you can draw conclusions based on the the last three games of last season I think I can do the same for this very DIFFERENT season. He doesn't look like the same qb that was playing those last three games last year. Most of his passes are inaccurate behind or in the turf and he locks onto receivers and gives the defense a great chance to intercept the ball. He keeps throwing to basically Maehl in tight coverage, who shouldn't be our primary receiver. His success last year had more to do with seniors at key positions, receivers, O-line, and backfield. Without that safety blanket he has turned into a terrible passing qb. He can still run, and should be used for that skill, but frankly they should bring in Costa to throw. Obviously the defense will look for that but Masoli will still throw some balls into the turf and Costa will run with ball on some plays, but its idiocy to pretend masoli is anything but mediocre this year.

Good post. I support whatver Kelly decides, but Masoli has absolutely been mediocre so far. To be 2-1 with no passing touchdowns considering the teams we played is pretty impressive. Like I said in another post, the new season for Masoli starts Saturday. It's already been 3 games. If he cannot get the passing game going against Cal, he should be replaced for at least a portion of the next game. Oregon isn't going to beat teams in the pac-10 by just running the football.

Re: Kelly standing behind Masoli...
He's definitely not the same passer as last year, but we have a lot of problems offensively right now, so I don't think Masoli is the only culprit. I still think fans are justified to start pointing fingers. I mean really this is some of the worst offense I've seen in a while. Oregon has more talent and is better than what they are showing.dthomas=ddixon wrote:Exactly. Did he just lose his ability to throw over the off-season? Give it time. Our O-line is picking it up, our 2 frosh RBs are looking good, and our defense is playing awesome.
If Masoli and the WRs can start picking up the slack, I smell upset this saturday.

Totally agree... we still haven't seen a game with all our units playing well and up to their potential... when we start to see consistent play from all units during the duration of a whole game we'll start to see quality wins...UOducksTK1 wrote:Give it time. Re: Kelly standing behind Masoli...
He never could throw and he never will throw.
I said it all last season that if we continue to start Masoli, the fans will not be pleased at all.
I called for Roper/Thomas or anybody but Masoli last year. Even after the great games against Ok State and OSU, I give the credit mostly to Blount and JJ. He still had good games, but he locked onto 1 PLAYER.
When the last time that we almost lost to teams like UCLA/Stanford/Arizona/Purdue/Utah at home? Only with Masoli. None of those games should've been close, but with Masoli's help, they were

We have had a top 10 team and a couple heisman candidates in Blount and Masoli

Top 10 team? We don't have Blount anymore, and we were ranked 16th.dd10snoop28 wrote:There were no expectations going into that year at all.UOducksTK1 wrote:Uh with Dixon we lost to Arizona @ home by 28 points.dd10snoop28 wrote:He never could throw and he never will throw.

Pretty sure expectations were higher with Dixon, especially after we beat Oklahoma...

Re: Kelly standing behind Masoli...
We were never listed as a top 10 team, Blount is gone ( kind of messes with how the team plays till they can adjust) and its funny you bring up the Masoli for heisman just 2 posts after you slam him for never being able to pass. TK alreadr locked down one Masoli sucks thread just to have to readit in every other thread. I hope he throws 10 TDs to 10 differant recievers this week but that may not be enough.dd10snoop28 wrote:There were no expectations going into that year at all.UOducksTK1 wrote:Uh with Dixon we lost to Arizona @ home by 28 points.dd10snoop28 wrote:He never could throw and he never will throw.

I'm saying he was a heisman candidate coming into this season while Dixon was still battling for a starting job as a junior,

No, he was being called a darkhorse candidate, and it was completely based off of only 3 games ... which is exactly the amount of games this year that has now caused everyone to dub him the scourge of the team and to call for his head. Get a grip everyone, 3 games is not a good estimation of a player's skills.dd10snoop28 wrote:I'm saying he was a heisman candidate coming into this season while Dixon was still battling for a starting job as a junior,

I have yet to read anything from you that I have found to be remotely thoughtful or relevant...
