Masoli to runningback
I'm sure this will stir some Sh** but what the hell.
1. He's actually a good power runner to get some tough yards & with some speed to get to the outside if needed.
2. Would be a threat too throw the ball on a trick play.
3. Won't play QB in the NFL ( neither will Costa for that matter ).
4. Can come in and play QB if needed at anytime.
5. Would give us 3 solid runningbacks ( maybe 4 if Remene could be trusted ) this year.
6. Start D. Thomas now for the rest of the year ( allow for the growing pains ) or save his redshirt and start costa with masoli as back-up.
I appreciate what masoli's done for us, but the guy can not throw the rock unless he scrambles to the outside where he can see.... and to have any chance of winning consistently you have to be able too throw in the pocket if needed. His mechanics are horrible also. No way should he be this bad for as much time and experience he's had in this offense IMO!!! We are going into the 4th game of the season and we STILL don't know what we are going to get from Masoli ... its time to make a move one way or the other Chip!!!!

Re: Masoli to runningback
Penjamin" has been saying this since spring ball. You'll get strong agreement there.
I didn't check but did we have any passing yards in the second half last week. I was amazed that we were able to run against 9 in the box. Cal is not Utah, their 3-4 with the D-backs up will stuff our O-line. If Masoli is not passing well in the first half Kelly should pull the trigger on Costa. I though he learned something last year from the BSU game. That was a win if Thomas had started the 3rd quarter.
I think I'm right on this...Three weeks in a row the opening play was an out route on the right side to Maehl. Two of the three drilled the ground...kind of hard to do with the crown on the field. Somewhere there is a corner at Cal watching films and calculating when to jump the pass.

Re: Masoli to runningback
The only potential disagreement that I have with this is that I believe Costa should have a shot at the QB position and try to save the RS for DT...I was all for DT becoming the starter last year...He is our future in my opinion, but lets face it, we do have others that have earned to right to a shot at it first.....And that others...is Nate Costa....dd10snoop28 wrote:Get Masoli out of the QB position please!

Worst Logic Ever... Desperation does lead to irrational thinking though. I am still a bit disturbed, and hope you were just "lights out" drunk when you wrote this???slammer wrote:I'm sure this will stir some Sh** but what the hell.

If you disagree, explain why. Don't just sit there and come up with clever insults.rcook wrote:Worst Logic Ever... Desperation does lead to irrational thinking though. Re: Masoli to runningback
Traydub - I completely agree with you. I have posted reasons in all kinds of topics... This and the post I made about Costa should suffice.

Here is the Truth about this topic:
1. Last year vs UCLA, we had even less passing yards than last week, it was pathetic. We still won the game, albeit ugly.
2. A large percentage of ducks fans completely freaked out, found dozen's of "pipe-dream" solutions, and clearly lacked the vision it takes to determine how a player will perform as the season continues.
3. I said that Masoli "DOES NOT SUCK & WILL BE GOOD" then (last year), the OP is correct in this post as well. Masoli is clearly having passing problems currently, but they are super fixable. Here's how his problems are occuring:
- He needs to set his feet and square his shoulder's when he throws... He has a great arm and is accurate when he does.
- He has NOT demonstrated to be good thrower on the run, he seems to have a touch of happy feet and lack of willingness to sidestep a rush and step into the pocket (with feet set) looking downfield.
- He did the same thing for a while last year when he "under-performed" as a passer, which he then corrected with improved fundamentals and became good, both passing and running.
- He has always been a GOOD, STRONG runner, not all quarterbacks are, because he can run, he often does a bit early, when he should square his shoulders and find an open man. It's the coaches responsibility to help him see when, where, why the fundamental errors are happening and how he can fix them, mainly by setting his feet and taking enough time to ensure an accurate pass, he looks like he is rushing his throws just a bit to me.
4. The weather was crappy last week and there was a fair amount of slipping, sliding, and dropped balls. The entire passing offense was awful, not just him.
5. He will be good again, this year. BOOK IT.

Re: Masoli to runningback
You know, its going to really fun when Masoli turns it around & all these fans have to eat heaping plates of crow. Same as last year. I supported Masoli the whole way & it was such a nice feeling when he started dominating. Nothing like a good, "I told you so."

rcook- like i said, i just thought i's throw this thread out there and expected comments like yours ... BUT Lets see ...... we are going into the 4th game of the season and our QB can not find ONE OF THE BEST TE in the country .... hmmmm!!!! Masoli can NOT stay in the pocket to pass ... he's turning over the rock ( i.e fumbles & interceptions ) ... He did a hell of a job last year BUT, he does'nt have J.J and LaGarrette too hide behind this year ... SO LIKE I SAID .... we are going into the 4th game of the season AND we still don't know what he's gonna give us!! I don't wanna burn D.Thomas's redshirt, so if this keeps up, let's see we Costa can do. GOOOOO DUCKS!!

Re: Masoli to runningback
Why don't you add that we're 2-1 after going through one of the toughest OOC schedules in the nation? Even with having no Blount or JJ behind him. Or do FACTS like that just not help your arguement?slammer wrote:rcook- like i said, i just thought i's throw this thread out there and expected comments like yours ... Re: Masoli to runningback
2-1 vs 3 at least decent but likely good teams, with about 1/2 (generous) of our normal offensive potential... If Bellotti was coaching, that would be his emphasis...
Just calm down and think positive, I assure you they are trying to fix the offense as fast as you can criticize it...
