QUACK! 2023 JC OL George Silva commits

Oregon continues their hot streak along the OL with the commitment of 2023 JC OL George Silva. A bit raw and not rated highly, the coaches really like his athleticism and potential.

Definitely a lot of potential. This is his first full season playing OL. At Juco because he focused on basketball growing up and wanted to give football a shot. A lot of size and athleticism to mold, but my guess is due to lack of experience he redshirts next season.

I agree with your take. Not your typical JUCO who you go after to plug a recruiting hole. He's going to need some development, but certainly has a solid upside.

Overall, this OL recruiting class is fine, but certainly no Josh Conerlys, TJ Basses, Shane Lemieuxs, Calvin Throckmortons, etc. These guys will need practice and weight room time to devleop. For all the hubbub about Cristobal and Mirabal's OL recruiting, the line really could use a player or two that can step in and play immediately because the depth is questionable.

Yeah, I was hoping they would use one of these offensive line scholarships on a proven OL transfer. Maybe they still will, but there isn't much room left if they stick to the typical scholarship count dedicated to the OL (15), especially if they still hope to land Spencer Fano.

Oregon desperately needs two tackles and a center to emerge. Conerly is definitely expected to be one of them, but I'm not sure who #2 is.

Not entirely, but to a certain degree. I just roughly listed them in groups in terms of who is getting playing time this season, who is expected to get playing time next season, put the incoming recruits last, etc. If I was ranking them based on most talent/potential, I would have Connerly #1, even though JPJ and Harper are getting more snaps this season.

I talked to lots of people in Washington when Shane L was recruited. They said he didn’t have a UW offer, and would never see the field at UO. He was far from a sure thing in most peoples minds.

If I had to guess who will be the best in 2023, I think the order of your list is pretty good. Ranking based on 'upside', things definitely shift.

I'm biased toward my own evaluations, you could say. Shane was a bulldog with a hell of a work ethic. My biggest concern was that he was going to get talked into going to South Carolina instead of Oregon.

Wasn't JPJ one of the top centers in his class? I suspect that he might shift over there next season.

Even if they get Fano, they'll probably still take another OL (either via recruit or transfer) because it's expected that Fano will take an LDS mission right out of HS.

Any insight on where Samson and Fano are leaning currently? With how bad Miami is looking it would be nice if we could get Samson. Getting one or both of those guys would be huge.

EDIT: After seeing Miami drop the bag for McClain I don’t think we will get someone like Samson who is considering Miami. They are literally shelling out millions for these kids.

Would we feel comfortable with Dawson Jaramillo as a starting tackle next season? Personally, it makes me nervous relying on him. I am prone to underestimating him due to his silly looks, and he doesn't seem terribly physically imposing. He does have a decent amount of experience though, and would have another year to develop in the weight room. It would be interesting to get the unfiltered view of how the coaches view him.

First he is a D1 football lineman at a ,imo, a top 10 school, which means he has size and talent. He has playing experience, which means he is good enough to see the field at that program, unlike a few other of our multi starred players. Silly looks? I learned a long time ago not to judge someone by there looks, that’s all I will say about silly looks. He may never play on Sunday but he is already proven to be a reliable player.

Considering he's the current backup Center, I've got next years OL tenatively looking like this:

Josh Connerly - Marcus Harper - JPJ - Steven Jones - Dawson Jaramillo/Transfer

Now Jones has played Tackle in the past so it will be interesting to see if the Coaches feel the depth at Guard allows them to try someone else outside or if they may look to the Portal to fill one of the Tackle spots.
