They're going to need someone else besides Bo and Ty as most teams carry at least 3 scholarship guys on the roster.

If Moore really wants to go to UCLA then his loss. Ducks will be fine, though it’d definitely be better if Moore sticks with Oregon.

Excellent point and who gives a QB who does not yet know the playbook a guarantee that he will start? I get that Moore is very talented and likely smart but there was also that kid Justin Herbert who was labeled a 'genius' by a number of people on the academic side of the house and who several NFL scouts said they have never seen a QB who 'processes' information as quickly as Justin can who redshirted if I recall.greenyellow wrote:Imagine what guaranteeing him the starting spot does for their remaining QBs like Ethan Garbers and Justyn Martin.dthomas=ddixon wrote:Apparently it is all about Bo’s return. Let's see if the full-court press works by the Ducks and they can sell him on waiting a year before leading the charge (worked for Marcus!)
The wild thing to me is UCLA is 100% lying, there’s no way he is guaranteed the starting spot. They’ll probably bring in a transfer QB too. I would imagine NIL is playing a huge role too. UCLA’s class is very poor and they likely have their entire NIL budget left to throw at Moore.
The point is like most freshmen football players the college experience is overwhelming in the beginning . Marcus redshirted. DJ U sat behind Trevor Lawrence. I don't believe Burrow started as a freshman. I know I am preaching to the choir here but if he is buying that he will start at UCLA well then maybe that's the best fit for him.
There also seems to be a lot of smoke out there about DJ U and UCLA.
Certainly time will tell.

Again, I'm not gonna' stress on it. Yes, he's a 5 star recruit, but we've seen 5 star recruits not pan out in the past. I'm not saying I wouldn't like him to stay committed to Oregon. Of course I would! Still, we can step into the Transfer Portal next year and find a PROVEN QB.
I'd almost guarantee that the Ducks will do that after Bo leaves even if Moore does come. I can't see Lanning "giving" anyone anything. Competition gets the best out of everyone. We're going to need a decent backup, and if Ty Thompson isn't able to establish himself soon, I don't see the Ducks having any other options.
There's also no guarantee how much longer Chip will be at UCLA. He had a decent year this season, but if he loses a couple seasons back to back he'll likely be gone in 2 years.
Come on signing day!!! Let's get this stuff settled.
Agree with SuperDuck here. If we have to choose, I would take 1 more year of Bo every time. Hopefully we can get Moore too, but as a coach you always have to take proven talent when available. Here is a list of QBs that Oregon recruited that were ranked as Top 10 QBs in their class since 2014 that didn't really pan out at Oregon. That is 8 Top 10 QBs in 8 years that didn't pan out. Wow!
Jonson (4)
Mahalak (5)
Butterfield (5)
Thompson (7)
Shough (7)
Rodriquez (7)
Wilson (8)
Burmeister (10)
For reference, Moore is listed on 257 as No. 5 at his position. He looks like he is the real deal, but what if you put all your eggs in the basket and he ends up on the list above??

They've got another QB committed in their recruiting class. UCLA is also bringing in a potential transfer QB so it doesn't look like they're sticking everything towards flipping Moore.lmduck wrote:Excellent point and who gives a QB who does not yet know the playbook a guarantee that he will start? Put me down for another vote for one year of Nix.northbeachsf wrote:SuperDuck wrote:dthomas=ddixon wrote:Apparently it is all about Bo’s return. UCLA is telling Moore he’ll start day 1 and obviously if Bo returns that’s not an option here.DmoneyDuck wrote:My guess:

A healthy Bo Nix is a proven commodity and a legitimate contender to win the Heisman trophy. A healthy Bo Nix puts Oregon right back in the playoff conversation. And given the current state of the transfer portal, we would be in a prime spot to land the top transfer in 2023.

The Oregon version of Chip was huge on everyone had to compete to earn their spot. I’m skeptical of him promising the start.

Very astute comment. Chip never guaranteed anyone a starting job. It had to be earned.UofDuck wrote:The Oregon version of Chip was huge on everyone had to compete to earn their spot. I’m skeptical of him promising the start.

Who knows what Chip is throwing out there. He hates recruiting, maybe this is his new found element. Not worried. I’m also on the ‘Would rather have Bo, and someone with the chops’ than worry about an unknown. From what we’ve seen (insert Caleb Williams), you can possibly land a Heisman candidate from the portal. The NIL money would be wisely spent on true commodities. Prove it, get some money.

Well, let's hope Dante plans to be in Eugene this weekend. I am sure word will surface on Twitter at some point.

The old adage "The most popular player on the team is the QB #2" (until he's been given enough chances to prove himself see: Ty T) also applies to recruiting. Moore looks great in the games he's played in HS. The general feeling about TT a few years back was much the same as the feelings about Moore now. DJ U is a great example this year of how different the college game is compared to HS games. If we land Moore I think it's a great opportunity, but not actually a solution to our QB situation.Everythingsducky wrote:From what we’ve seen (insert Caleb Williams), you can possibly land a Heisman candidate from the portal. As others have pointed out, the portal is a great opportunity to remove a lot of the doubt that is inherent with recruiting HS players. Of course, we should continue to recruit quality players from the HS ranks each year, but the portal has greatly improved the odds for teams filling an immediate need see: Bo Nix , C Williams, Penix, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if Chip flipped Moore. He says he hated recruiting, and yet he always seemed good for at least one high-profile flip each year.
Willie Taggart is a dick.

Apparently DJ U will be at UCLA on an unofficial visit this weekend, not saying Moore won’t flip, but UCLA doesn’t seem too confident in it.

5 star QB Dante Moore trending to UO? Edit: QUAAAAACK!
I think it’s totally up in the air and both schools are setting up backup plans. At this point my bet would be he ends up at UCLA. Just too much smoke this close to signing day for me to feel good about him.
