We've done this for 3 years now....

I will agree, the 07 and 08 classes were solid. The 06 class wasn't, and the 09 class remains to be seen. At the same time, losing guys like Fili and Wade really hurt, we have had some awful tragedies with guys like Kelly and Doxey and also had some top recruits get suspended.

I would say the reason I keep my hopes low is that I know 1)that some recruits will commit and change their mind, 2)some will commit and not be accepted, and 3) other reasons will keep commits from seeing the field.

That being said I agree we are getting better at recruiting and all of the promotion involving Nike and uniforms is paying dividends. It just might take longer to get where we want to be, but right now we are in a pretty good position as a program. So if your bothered by losing recruits here and there stop following the recruiting and wait till signing day, then you won't worried about the fish that got away, cause we will still catch plenty.

Thanks Mops, great stuff. The way i look at it is that the information i get on this site is way better than anything i can find anywhere else for free. Whether the recruits disscussed become a reality or not its just fun to be along for the ride. Thanks again for all that you do with this site!

Athletes like Kenny Row, Chris Harper

We have plenty of kids waiting to step up and if we have faith in our coaching staff we shouldn't worry about the next few seasons. I think its an exciting time to be a duck fan. Even if we miss out on the #1 overall recruit 2 years in a row. At least we are one of the programs in the running!

The reason isn't coaching that USC isn't in the championship every year. Its probability theory. They have better overall talent which translates into a higher probability of winning. A higher probability does not guarantee victory but rather given enough games leads to the inevitable loss and as seen in the rankings when the loss occurs greatly affects where they end up at the end of the year in the BCS standings.

If anyone "thought" that we wouldn't have any road blocks with the changes within the coaching staff.........your crazy. I honestly think that we will have an average class this year.....have a great season next year (I'm thinking a 1 or 2 loss season)......and an improved recruiting class in 2010.

Be excited for the kids we DID get!

Don't try and go all Steve Hawking here. Sure, your bound to lose a game from time to time. They lost them due to bad coaching.

Linebacking recruiting the past 2 years is the best i've seen at oregon!! I'm way more excited with our redshirt freshman next season compared to anyone we have recruited this year ( on the offensive side ). THIS ALL CHANGES THOUGH IF WE CAN LAND BOYD OR & BROWN.

The 07 and 08 classes were far better than simply solid.

We signed 20 4*s between the two and 21 3*s. If thats not a good/great class what is in your eyes?

Yeah, solid means good/great. I was happy with those 2 classes. Recruiting has definitely gotten better, but we need to continue to have classes like that or better to make a real run at a national championship. 1 "off year" in recruiting could really hurt. Who knows how the current class will end up, but I trust the 2010 class will be better if Oregon has another 10 win season in 09.

Like I said in another thread, I have been following recruiting on the internet very closely since '98. What some of you newer followers don't realize is that there was an overhaul of how many people got 3 stars back in 2004 or 2005. Whereas someone back in 2002 or 2003 would've got a two star or one star, they are now either a 3 star or at the very least a 2 star. This has a lot to do with more players being scouted and rated than ever before. So recent successes in recruiting might look more impressive than they really are when comparing them to the early days of Rivals.

Our classes that have been rated highly were because of the number of 4 star recruits. This year we have one according to Rivals. I don't need a lecture from someone who hasn't been following the game as long as I have. I appreciate what you do here Mops but I trust my own knowledge and observances with regard to recruiting. This is a very disappointing class so far and I'd compare it to an early 2000s class. We will also see how the coaches develop the players. There are different coaches this time around, so hopefully that means less attrition, better talent, and more player development.

My opinions of this year will change if we end up closing strong. But that seems to be looking less and less likely. Since I've been following recruiting we've always been in on the top talent in the West. We didn't close on a lot of them then. We started closing strong in 2004 and 2005. Now it seems we are in on a lot of talent nationally. We had a great year last year closing 4 star national recruits. Not so much this year so far. We'll see in a few weeks.

P.S. Solomona and Finley did in fact finish up at UO. Didn't want anybody to think that their careers went to waste at UO.
