They can pull nearly any coach in the country that they want, except for a small handful (Smart, DeBoer, Lanning, Sarkisian). Love this. I don’t know Holden but my sense is he’s someone who has some real flaws but is aware of them and is trying to change. Which is what matters in my book.Duck07 wrote:
That said, I’d expect Lanning to handle it internally and that we won’t see Holden for a game or two. Which is fair.

I know they can pull “almost” anyone, but of those who they can, my question was who is better as a coach than RD? In the last 4 yrs his only losses in regular season are to Mich and OR.pdxduck2013 wrote: Sun Oct 13, 2024 4:24 pmThey can pull nearly any coach in the country that they want, except for a small handful (Smart, DeBoer, Lanning, Sarkisian). BTW.......no one has talked about it, but we should. Lanning is playing 3D chess while everyone else is playing checkers. The "12 men on the field"..........GENIUS. That was NOT a mistake.

My friend is an Ohio State fan. He thinks the fans who want Ryan Day gone forgot that he was a play or 2 from winning the national championship. (Georgia murdered TCU that year).rsbgduck wrote: Sun Oct 13, 2024 4:35 pm I know they can pull “almost” anyone, but of those who they can, my question was who is better as a coach than RD? He does like Matt Campbell. There's apparently a tradition where all the Ohio State coaches are from the state of Ohio (Ryan Day doesn't fit).

I know I'm late but the lack of impact from JTT and Sawyer was astounding. Just wearing a uniform out there. Sad that we got more production out of 2 true sophomores

Their DC is basically stealing from OSU getting 2 million a year. His seat should be scolding hot right now.droop10 wrote: Sun Oct 13, 2024 2:24 pm Hilarious to see the dichotomy between this board and Ohio’s. I don't think I quite understood the depth of their hubris. They expected to simply show up and dominate. Instead they got played to a draw that oregon came out on top. Our line was just better on both sides. Its as if they didnt think to send pressure after 4 men cant get consistent pressure. The adjustment were not there his seat, compared to their expectations should be en feugo.hslack wrote: Mon Oct 14, 2024 6:31 amTheir DC is basically stealing from OSU getting 2 million a year. And isn’t that essentially exactly what they did when we beat them in Columbus? I remember them being totally unprepared for what we were doing on offense, which was not at all complicated. And they never even made an attempt at adjusting during the game.Zyme wrote:I don't think I quite understood the depth of their hubris. They expected to simply show up and dominate. I mean, look at the tOSU defensive rank before he got there and the defensive rank now. He's earning every penny. It was hot garbage before Knowles.hslack wrote: Mon Oct 14, 2024 6:31 amTheir DC is basically stealing from OSU getting 2 million a year. In reading the OSU boards, a few things stand out to me about ^. First thing is that they absolutely did change their pressure packages in the 2nd half and started rushing more - Our OL just did a terrific job of picking up those blitzes and James even had 1 great stack against a LB. The other thing is how they talk about their DL coach having things his way while the DC wants to do other things. Mainly it sounds like the DL coach Johnson ONLY wants to play Even (4 man) fronts) whereas the DC wants to incorporate Odd man fronts (3/5). If true, you certainly understand the frustration with having a limited scheme. About the only position coach they have where I'd say "he gets to do what he wants" would be Brian Hartline at WR Coach.Zyme wrote: Mon Oct 14, 2024 7:52 amI don't think I quite understood the depth of their hubris. For the Buckeyes that wanted to run more in the 2nd half, Chip wisely stopped because they went 12 for 19 rushing in that half and didn't have Simmons at LT. As it was, Matayo had already made 1-2 plays against Simmons when he was in.
What's also very rewarding on the rewatch is that we were trailing at the end of the 1st half and end of the 2nd half and each time our Offense drove the distance of the field to get a go-ahead score late while the Defense was able to use the minute plus of time remaining to make sure that OSU couldn't get a drive into scoring range. That's 2 separate must-haves for each unit on 4 drives where Oregon went 4-4 and OSU went 0-4.

Coordinators on other teams are turning into the new backup QBs. Fans always think other guys are a better option, when it may not be true. I think this is something that's frustrated me in general across all sports. In this new social media era, everyone wants instant gratification, and at any hint of adversity, fans start calling for a coach's head. There always needs be a scapegoat. It can't be that the other team just performed better that day, or they had great coaches that also made good play calls. A lot of it is that fans just watch their team in a vacuum, so they are hyperaware of every little thing that goes awry with their team, while only getting a high level view of other teams. So, they refuse to acknowledge that other teams (or coaches) also have flaws or make mistakes occasionally.hslack wrote: Mon Oct 14, 2024 6:31 amTheir DC is basically stealing from OSU getting 2 million a year. I already saw multiple OSU fans on their board make the same claim the fans on here did about not having a championship level team, because heaven forbid, they lost a 1 point game on the road. Here it was because the Ducks were only winning by 3 scores after a slow start to the season. There are no flawless teams in college football, and any of the top 10 teams can win on a given Saturday when playing each other. Both of these teams are absolutely capable of winning the championship. It's also possible to gel and improve over the course of a season, which the Ducks have absolutely been doing. They should easily be favored in every game until the B1G championship, but we'll see what happens. We've already seen the impacts of the long travel across country, so that makes me a bit nervous for a couple of those road games, though they should win them.
