Excellent article, haven't even finished, but reading the part reflecting on Oregon's 6-year losing season stretch (1968-1975), and seeing the onside kick vs Ohio State, how much is Oregon like The Waterboy?
Dan Lanning is Coach Klein, and Kirby Smart is Coach Red Beaulieu and Dan's first game as HC against the big team where he came from.
And Dan Fouts is in it! I love when he puts Brent Musburger in his place for being rude/ill-tempered throughout the broadcast.

While not the main point of the article, of course, there are at least a couple of things wrong with 1968-75 being a 6-year losing season stretch for the Ducks:
1968-75 are eight seasons, not six.
In 1969, the Ducks were 5-5-1, and in 1970 they were 6-4-1 (Dan Fouts, Bobby Moore [who became Ahmad Rashad]) -- both non "losing" seasons.
The Ducks proceeded to indeed have eight straight losing seasons over 1971-78.
Thanks for posting the link, good article and it is nice to hear “The Ohio State” media recognizing the fans of Autzen and what they do as a true twelfth man…… on a national level. I am loving this season and thanks to coach Lanning for taking our Ducks to yet another level.
It's really funny to see this year becoming a coming out party to the country, when I would have said that happened years ago in either the Auburn national championship year or when Mariota won the Heisman. I overestimated people.
Oregon has come a long way. In 1969 the AD was too cheap to pay for a marching band and hired a hippie rock band (Oroboros?). The acoustics were awful; all you could hear was the bass player one fiving his way through the fight song.
Good article and I'm glad to see that Autzen and Oregon in general continue to be under estimated.
Like I said previously, I thought that the cat was out of the bag when Michigan came to visit in 2003, but the rest of the country has a short memory and seems to go back to the pre-1990's default of 'if USC isn't nationally relevant, then there is no good CFB out west'.
I really like that the narrative has flipped and it's now the Big 10 that needs to adjust to us including OSU completely rescheming their defense. I think that the quality of football in the PAC which Oregon has been mostly dominant in for the last 30 years (+/-) has been unfairly dismissed and We'll see how other former PAC teams fair in the other conferences, but I love that the TV market sweethearts are unimpressive in the Big 10. $$$ over quality of play is still the name of the game with all of the recent adjustments, but that is another rant...

Never ceases to amaze me how little some of these major fanbases pay attention to the rest of cfb. I love the ducks but I’m just as much a fan of the sport. These fanbases seem to only be fans of their school.
