You can't with 12 and would need to move to 8 or 16. If you don't get a bye for winning your conference and just being highly ranked, you essentially get punished with extra games for making your conference championship. Right now, Oregon and Ohio State will play equal games, but that wouldn't be the case if we (as a conference champ) didn't get a bye. It's why Notre Dame not being eligible for a bye makes sense as they also don't have that extra game.

If we can pull this off, nobody can say we were given an easy path.

On another note, I wonder if the players get a ring for each bowl game that they advance?

B1G 10 Champion ring: Secured
Rose Bowl Champion ring:
Cotton Bowl Champion ring:
National Champion ring:

They should get rid of conf. championship games (probably will never happen), crown a regular season conf. winner based off of records, and move to a 16 team playoff based off of CFP rankings.

Watching Paul "dumbo" Finebaum whine is delicious. Playing USF, Western Kentucky and Mercer instead of a Team with a pulse might have give Alabama another loss. eSECpn SUCKS.

It's the major downside for West Coast teams and the CFP being tied to the NY6 Bowls - only the Rose Bowl and FIesta Bowls are west of Texas.
Sure but plenty of ducks fans in those areas. And nice to even have teams get 2-3 hours out of their time zones.

Not saying you get rid of the byes entirely since I think they should go to the top 4 in the standings regardless of if they won their conference CG. Winning your conference should only get teams an autobid into the CFP. Another option would be to reseed teams after the first round.

They absolutely have to be playing more games in LA, Phoenix, Vegas etc as part of any "fairness doctrine" with these games.

I think the easiest change with 12 teams is to make the QF round a home-site game. I doubt any kind of "re-seeding" will be changed but I could be wrong.

No. They need to go away from bowl games in the playoffs all together. What’s the incentive to be 1, if you don’t get a home field advantage? Screw playing in LA, give us a game in Eugene. Make the F4 at bowls.
