How confident are we in Dante Moore?

I have my opinions but curious to see how others feel.

He won't have the experience of the last two Ducks QB's, but his size and arm are superior. Judging him off UCLA wouldn't scream Heisman candidate, but there are video's out showing him throwing dimes deep. Evan Stewart will be back, Sadiq is a weapon primed to blast off, and Moore to Dakorien Moore could be what Washington had with Penix to Odunze. Dakorien has been compared to Amon-Ra St. Brown. Right now my floor for Dante Moore next year is 9, who knows what the ceiling could be.

I think he’ll have some early season struggles but could be great by the end of the season, though a lot will depend on how well the patchwork OLine protects him.

But with a QB like Dante the 2025 season may be the most intriguing season in Oregon football history, I feel like this team could go anywhere between 8-4 and 12-0.

Moore is a pocket passer with some ability to move around and escape the rush. He's not really a dual threat. The offense will have to change to accommodate a pocket passer.

The OL is also a question mark.

Feels like a rebuilding year.

Beau Pribula was in the transfer portal and Penn State gave him a lot of playing time (for a backup QB) last year. He completed 74% of his passes at an average of 7.9 yards per attempt. 5 TD 1 INT.

At UCLA Moore completed 53.5% of his passes for 7.6 yards per attempt. 11 TD. 9 INT.

Thing is Pribula is actually a threat to run and is a true dual threat.

The coaching staff is betting on Moore having improved from his UCLA days. We'll see. Makes me nervous.

I think this is the right question.

My confidence in Moore as a pocket passer when he's got a clean pocket and a rocket arm - playoffs seem very reasonable.

My confidence if he's trying to create and constantly running for his life - a lot lower; basically a 'shrug' and me saying "who knows."

This will be a good metric to evaluate as the season goes on. How is he doing compared to the top 5-10 QBs that were in the transfer portal.

I know Moore has the potential to be a great QB, but I’m nervous there will be a lot of mistakes made in year 1 as a starter. I hope not though!

I don't get this at all because for 3 years now none of our QBs have been dual-threats. The occasional scramble out of the pocket isn't what makes a QB a dual-threat.

The one thing that gives me confidence is the fact he was self aware enough to know he had more to learn and wanted to sit a year and be developed.

In this day and age of players transferring for immediate time, that emotional maturity speaks to me, especially at a leadership position like QB.

I agree that this is a positive, particularly in this environment. It looks good on Moore and on Lanning and Stein having confidence in him. Lot's of NFL QB's would be better having a year to watch & absorb before taking on the No.1 role. The OL is shaping up, weapons are at a level Oregon hasn't had before. An "off year" of 9-3-10-2 wouldn't be a disaster for the floor of 2025.

If you watch his high school film, he is outstanding along with his Elite11 performance. At UCLA he was a true freshman trying to absorb and adjust to a whole new playbook, and then they expected him to do way too much as a true freshman. He has had a year at Oregon to get ready and see the plays and understand his team. Sure he will make mistakes, but he has a cannon for an arm, quick release, and can be accurate and make good decisions if he has the time. The only thing I worry about for him is his low release point on some of his throws, but only time will tell. But I think he is gonna do well, as long as Stein can be more creative with the play calling.

Echo a lot of the sentiment about the OL, especially the tackles.

As far as general confidence, I'm pretty confident in him. I trust the word of guys like Tez. His arm talent is incredible.

My guess is the team struggles a bit early on offense and Dante takes some of the blame around message boards, but ultimately ends up taking off the 2nd half of the season and having a really good year.

Moore has as much ability as anyone, IMO. As others have already stated, the OL will determine everything. I’m not confident considering what we saw at times last season and what we have returning/coming in. Add in losing Coach Cav and… yeah, we’ll see. The season feels like a big question mark until we see what the OL is capable of.

Some of the rumblings about Moore feel closer to Mariota vibes than not, but i'm happy with where things are rather than say the hype Jason Fife got after Harrington left.
