Yeah agreed. Big drop off in talent after the top 8 teams IMO.

Unless they get blown out, the losers are going to stay pretty close to where they are. Week 1 is a good time to lose.

Feels low, but the non-playoff rankings don't mean anything anymore. Go out there and prove it.

LSU and Miami are super talented teams. They just have other...deficiencies...

Main question to me is if Oregon is a lock at 10-2 to make the playoffs. (thinking we lose to Penn State and Iowa).

So the pollsters think Mario will magically figure out how to coach up QBs. And make a very inconsistent Beck, good?

Part of it is they have a soft schedule and are loaded with talent on the lines. They might just need win 1 of Notre Dame, Louisville, and Florida to make the playoff. (I'm not buying SMU being good again).

That said, you do always fear them having the "Mario" game each year.

I think it has more to do with the teams behind Miami just not being very good.

Sure by talent, I meant ability to compete. I think Miami is over ranked but that’s typical most seasons these days.

If I could I would make a bunch of changes to college football and one of those changes is to get rid of preseason rankings. No rankings until week 10 or 11, or just completely get rid of the AP and coaches poll. I hate it when teams can have a crap non-conference schedule, be mediocre all season, lose a couple games (and should’ve lost more), but rely on a bad schedule and excessive preseason hype to make the playoffs and even get a good seeding. And yes I’m talking about Ohio State.

It just bothers me how college football can’t figure out how to put all teams on a level playing field and that big programs can get rewarded for taking advantage of such a flawed system. Preseason rankings end up having far more of an impact on how the season goes than they should. If a team that wasn’t in the preseason rankings last season performed the same as Ohio State with the same schedule, they wouldn’t have made the playoffs, let alone hosted a first round game.

AP Poll

South of the Mason-Dixon: 10 teams
Big 10: 6
Big 12: 4
ACC: 3
Mid-Major: 1
Independent: 1

I don't know who is overrated and who is underrated, but Alabama, ASU, Illinois, South Carolina, Michigan and Florida all seem like prime candidates to slide once games start. Conversely, Utah, Missouri, Navy, and Texas A&M would be the teams I'm buying stock in while they're relatively low right now.
