RB Stat Predictions - 2025

Post by StevensTechU »

Listening to Ra'Shaad Samples' media availability from yesterday, it's a good reminder of how crowded the running back room is this year. Because we all like making predictions, I want to ask for two things from anybody who wants to weigh in -

1) What do you think will be the order of # of carries, and who will lead the room in touchdowns?
2) If you were Samples, what would be YOUR order of # of carries, and who would lead in TDs?

Reminder of who is on this roster-
Returners: Noah Whittington, Jayden Limar, Jay Harris, Dejaun Riggs
New: Makhi Hughes, Jordon Davison, Dierre Hill Jr.

Not including QB carries..

What will happen (Very similar to last year just swap James with Hughes):
Makhi Hughes 55%
Noah Whittington 25%
DeJuan Riggs 5%
Jay Harris 5%
Jayden Limar 5%
Everyone else 5%

What should happen? Who knows, I'm hoping one of Limar/Harris/Riggs/Incoming freshmen start to step it up and separate themselves from the back.

Do Not Fear. Isaiah 41:13

Samples as least seemed to emphasize spreading carries out a bit more and I'm also curious if we use more 2 back sets this year or not.

1. Hughes 50%
2. Whittington 30%
3. Riggs/Harris 15%
4. All others 5%

2. I really don't know, but I loved Dierre Hill's film and think he provides a home run threat the others don't. If he's ready from a playbook perspective, he should get some meaningful carries.

I think it'll be Hughes, Whittington, Limar, Harris, Riggs. With that group, I don't see the need for a "goal line" specialist so Hughes will find the end zone the most just because he'll be getting the most carries.

That order is fine, but I'd switch Riggs and Limar, and potentially make Limar the goal line guy to reward him for doing everything right despite not having that same talent as the other guys.

I see Riggs and Harris as being the feature backs in 2026 so I'd like them to get enough carries to be ready.

Nothing against Limar personally as by all accounts he seems like a great guy and teammate but I hope he's not 3.

FWIW, Hughes, Whit and Riggs are the RB who saw time with the 1s in the first scrimmage
