To be honest, Lanning's approach to Crepea is bordering on childish, IMO. I love virtually everything Lanning brings to the program except that and wish he'd give fans/media a bit more access so we can have more reason to get excited.
The Ducks vs. Them video series (and Fall Camp series) is about as much of an open book as I've seen from any Oregon coach, maybe even Power 4 coach. The team meetings, the speeches, the friggen radio calls in-game! I think some fans are starting to take those for granted. We basically get an episode of Hard Knocks every week!

I think that's a fair point, but I would also say that's like saying reality TV is reality.

Would love to see this team come out a little further along to start this year than they have in years past. Two years ago, they were a mess against Texas Tech, and then last year, it was Idaho and Boise State (a good team, but a game we expect to win at home). I know there are a ton of variables from year to year, and I’d rather a coach that keeps improving across the season than one that peaks early, but they’ve really played with fire the last two seasons.

I just listened to Hythloday’s podcast with the Montana State insider, Hythloday is getting more negative each year and is so obsessed with his idea that you shouldn’t start a transfer OLineman in their first year in the program. He said during the podcast Oregon’s OLine is not good and the Montana State defensive line will give Oregon everything they can handle and that this would be a good and close game.

Hythloday has turned into one of those annoying duck fans that cares more about being right than Oregon winning, especially with his transfer OLine theory.

Luckily more reliable guys like QB11 have drastically different beliefs.

I have more faith in QB11 and I think ducks win this one 52-17.

STU -

From being in sales for so long and learning to read tone, body posture/language vs what we already know about his personality, my educated guess is that I think Dan actually appreciates James and it is kind of a back and forth they have. Kind of like the old WB cartoons on Ramblin' Rod (shout out to PDC childhood memories) where Sam Sheepdog and Ralph Wolf would clock in and then spend all day going at each other, then clock out.

Before Robby M. became "State Media" for the AD, he kind of had that relationship with Chip when he wrote for the RG.

Crepea asks probing questions and that is his job, but if every coach answered them honestly it would give the opponent some pretty decent insight.

I don't think the media annoys Dan as much as we think it does, he just doesn't want more information out there than needs to be.

I think Dan does a much better job of not letting reporters get to him when we compare him to say Mario.

Agree. I have a journalism background and this has always been my take as well.

But now...

Just watched Colorado blow it at the end with Prime's amazing clock management. DO YOU BELIEVE? I'm so happy that college football is back!

HOURS to go until kickoff!

GO DUCKS!!!!

Sorry for having to ask this but can someone please tell me why Hythloday is considered a football savant?

Is he a former coach?

Sorry but out buying the 'Dan acts childish with Crepea'.

Crepea is not even well liked by his media peers. That should tell you a lot.

He's just a big fan of the sport. Spends a significant amount of time watching and breaking down film. Like this guy will try to find community college film if that's the QB we're going up against. I personally like his analysis. It's more analytical and less emotional.

It's clearly annoying OF4L that hyth doesn't have a rosy view of the team but I also trust the numbers/historical context more than emotion.

Anyways, Go Ducks!

lol what a silly accusation. Yes he does analysis and there’s a reason I do listen to him but I do think QB11 is more knowledgeable, though he’s too rosy sometimes. I just think Hyth gets obsessed with his theories and is unable to consider otherwise. I personally find it ridiculous how negative he is about the Oregon OLine simply because of his transfer OLine theory and that the Montana St DLine will give everything Oregon has to handle. He just is looking at his theory rather than truly analyzing each player of the Oregon OLine.

He's simply saying that at the college level, it's rare that you can toss together 5 talented players that look good on paper and expect an elite offensive line after 6-9 months. Just because an OL did well under 1 coach/system doesn't mean they're a plug & play person, which is what you're implying by only looking at the individual player's attributes. Who knows who's right. We'll know after game 5, but I think his skepticism is at least founded in reality.
