Zack Hankins - LHP - '26 Taft HS

Post by Duck07 »

Oregon has a new LHP on the way from the Prep ranks and I think the hopeful comp for Zack is that he can be similar to Ethan Kleinschmit as a mid-major prep pitcher who simply has the right stuff to pitch D1 or higher. I don't know if he's got the same high end velocity as EK, but I'm excited for him.

I don’t follow HS baseball, so not sure his rank, or if he may bite at getting drafted.

He had a 0.09 ERA (OSAA single season record) and was 3A pitcher of the year.

IMO he's arguably the top LH pitcher in Oregon in 2026 of any classification. I don't think he's at Kleinschmit's level going into his SR year but Zack had a great 2025 which is why the Ducks are giving him a chance.

I'm also completely biased because I know the family, played against his Dad and spend a lot of time around the programs at Taft but I think he'd have to see a noticeable rise in his fastball (89/90) to the mid 90s to stand any chance at being drafted so high that the Minors made more sense.

Nice. I noticed we got a RHP pitcher out of Bainbridge Island so there's a clear focus on arms. Hankins can also play 1B and Madrid C but I'm really hopeful that Wilsonville's Mark Wiepert could grow into our next Catcher.

Oregon keeps adding 2027 commits, this time from 3B/OF Jacob Carrasco out of Pennsylvania.
