Re: Our coaches were exposed today
Let’s put it like this. Would you all rather have Lanning, Stein and Terry realize “oh (blank), we have a lot of growth to do against sim pressures and multiple-look defenses so we better get to work” in Game 6? Or would you rather have it come in mid-November?

Nix spent his first year at Oregon under Dillingham, and everyone here should agree that Dillingham was a superior offensive coordinator. Nix could have easily gone to the NFL but stayed another year with Stein. He was NFL-ready.Nix was NFL ready when he showed up to play for Lanning? If by nfl ready you mean undrafted FA, yes he was. Even before strain he was a 4-5th round pick in most mock drafts.
Willie Taggart is a dick.

Re: Our coaches were exposed today
I brought this up in the game thread, but the Cover 3 guys mentioned how this game reminded them of the Duck games against Deboer’s UW teams. Nix certainly played much better in those games than Moore did Saturday but in general, Indiana’s staff had our number and their players executed their plan very well. Because of our talent advantage we still had plenty of chances to win but Cig and staff knew exactly how to exploit our weaknesses and nullify our strengths.
Similar to those UW games, this game didn’t expose the ducks as frauds. We aren’t suddenly a bad team. Looking around CFB there still isn’t that many teams that look better than Oregon. Saturday had a lot to do with what the opponent did, and I doubt another team on our regular season schedule is going to be able to replicate it.
The offense has to play better though and I do worry about Moore bouncing back. If that’s the overall execution we get going forward we will struggle.

Cig is one of the best coaches, we knew this going into the game. I think we assumed our talent gap and home field advantage would exceed the coaching tilt in their favor. We assumed wrong.

Coaches are always exposed when the team loses. That's the nature of the beast.
Was Venables exposed on Saturday? 100% Was DeBoer exposed when they lost to FSU? Yes.
Point is do they grow from it? Lanning has always shown growth after losing. Can't say the same about his predecessor when he was at Oregon.

Dilly got far too cute at times. Is he superior, I’d say no. Was mix a nfl qb after year one, not one who would go before the 3-4 round. And those guys very rarely make it as a starter.pezsez1 wrote: Sun Oct 12, 2025 8:35 pmNix spent his first year at Oregon under Dillingham, and everyone here should agree that Dillingham was a superior offensive coordinator. As for being out coached or exposed. I’d say Moore played badly but our worst player all year, who needs replaced, and finally ran into a coaching staff who could expose him, is Iuli. He go pushed around by Montana st, and it took this long for a staff to just really focus on him when bringing pressure. Qb brought up moving Harkey in side to guard, and starting Wilson at RT. I’m all for whatever it takes to shore that side up.

……so we just sit there and say “oh bummer, our coaches got beat by a better coaching staff with inferior players, bummer, it happens” and when when we go against better coaching staffs with equal or better players we just accept getting blowing out like the Rose Bowl? To me the Washington losses were more acceptable, Stein’s first year and Lanning’s second, but if that sort of loss is still happening 2 years later why is our coaching staff not growing from it?dthomas=ddixon wrote: Mon Oct 13, 2025 8:57 am I brought this up in the game thread, but the Cover 3 guys mentioned how this game reminded them of the Duck games against Deboer’s UW teams. Again not saying we are frauds, but if other coaching staffs are able to exploit our weaknesses, why is our coaching staff not utilizing our strengths and exposing their weakness to counter it?

Re: Our coaches were exposed today
I think the loss was mostly due to scheme and underperformance by the QB and defensive line, but other than weeks 1-2 and the Penn State game, I haven't seen a ton of juice from this squad. Interviews and, at times, the play on the field look like there's a lack of motivation. Am I alone in that assessment? Can anyone do a better job of citing* specifics than I can?

I’m not sure how you’re getting that from my post as I didn’t say any of that.OregonFan4Life wrote: Mon Oct 13, 2025 9:59 am……so we just sit there and say “oh bummer, our coaches got beat by a better coaching staff with inferior players, bummer, it happens” and when when we go against better coaching staffs with equal or better players we just accept getting blowing out like the Rose Bowl? You’re creating false binaries where the coaching staff has either learned and therefore will out-coach everyone going forward, or they aren’t learning at all because they were out-coached one time. Or they’re either exploiting the other team or getting exploited. None of this is that simple. The ducks did some good things Saturday but overall didn’t execute well enough to win. How about those pre-snap shifts by the DL that caused 6 false starts by Indiana? Was that not our staff exploiting a weakness in Indiana’s OL?
The coaching staff is doing everything you mentioned already. In fact, most games they out-coach the opponent. Saturday Cig and his players got the best of them. It happens. None of this is happening in a vacuum where the Ducks are the main character and get a happy ending to their story every time.

Re: Our coaches were exposed today
You know way more than I do and I know this will be a very controversial post on this board, but when your head coach and leader is taking his shirt off on national tv before a top 10 matchup it’s easy to get over confident and undervalue your opponent. SportsChat503 mentioned in his recap video he talked to Harkey after the loss and he said they (the OLine) were surprised at how good the Indiana DLine was.StevensTechU wrote: Mon Oct 13, 2025 12:23 pm I think the loss was mostly due to scheme and underperformance by the QB and defensive line, but other than weeks 1-2 and the Penn State game, I haven't seen a ton of juice from this squad. Re: Our coaches were exposed today
The Oregon DLine has always done the pre-snap shifts, that’s nothing specific to the Indiana game. I’m not trying to hate on this staff or say that anyone should be fired, but there is clear growth that needs to happen and if the entire staff continues to not adjust and not grow they’ll never win a natty at Oregon unless they find a way to have a massive talent advantage over the rest of the nation and that’s never going to happen. I just expected to see more growth from the coaching staff than what we saw vs Indiana.dthomas=ddixon wrote: Mon Oct 13, 2025 12:29 pmI’m not sure how you’re getting that from my post as I didn’t say any of that.OregonFan4Life wrote: Mon Oct 13, 2025 9:59 am……so we just sit there and say “oh bummer, our coaches got beat by a better coaching staff with inferior players, bummer, it happens” and when when we go against better coaching staffs with equal or better players we just accept getting blowing out like the Rose Bowl? Re: Our coaches were exposed today
I do feel like we've seen growth on the defensive side of the ball. Last season, our defense was MIA against elite teams, and against Indiana we probably would have held them to 20-24 had our offense not left them on the field for the entire second half.
It's just the offensive side of the ball where I'm not seeing any improvement.

Respectfully, Dan taking off his shirt has no correlation to what happened on the field, so I'll beg to differ that had anything to do with over confidence or lack of confidence.OregonFan4Life wrote: Mon Oct 13, 2025 12:29 pmYou know way more than I do and I know this will be a very controversial post on this board, but when your head coach and leader is taking his shirt off on national tv before a top 10 matchup it’s easy to get over confident and undervalue your opponent.
