Everyone knows in terrible conditions and with a backup QB in for a half against a good D, you should still be putting up 50 burgers. You and I are the only ones that can’t see it. It’s always Steins fault, never the execution of the players. Was the offense hard to watch the first quarter and a half? Sure. I just get annoyed at the be fan mentality that never expects adversity from their team, especially college teams. s*** happens. Even in the best of conditions, you don’t always play your best game. Heck, sometimes the other defense plays well, and their coordinators are also capable of having good game plans.bdkipe wrote: Sat Oct 25, 2025 8:18 pm To be fair to Stein, he saw Dante get a little rattled early in Rutgers and got him into a confident groove quickly and we saw how that worked out.
Dante led that gorgeous 99 yard drive in some absolutely crappy weather.
Stein and co will go to the film, take 2 weeks to continue growth and I guarantee you we will come fired up for Iowa.
We want this team to be peaking at USC/Minnesota.
Wrighster mentioned Dante seems to be struggling against zones tonight.
Dante can be a bit of a head case when his confidence gets rattled but he has shown he can get it back quickly if he gets 1-2 easy completions.
It’s going to be up to Stein to recognize that and have some checks and to get Dante out of his own head.
I said this earlier. Thomas came in with some pep in his step and body language and immediately you saw our Oline get knockback and physically go to work.
For better or for worse, when Dante gets rattled the Oline gets rattled. I wish Poncho or Noah or even Moore would smack him sometimes and be like “Yo, get your head up, you are Dante Moore.”
FYI, for everyone bitching, Wiscy came in letting up 98 yards a game. They knew we were likely running due to weather and we put up 203 on them, accounting for kneel downs it was 210.
I honestly just hate the new fan mentality in all sports that constantly calls for coach’s jobs whenever there’s a hint of struggle. It drives me absolutely insane, and no fan base is happy with their coaches unless they are absolutely crushing everyone. Fans bitch about coaches leaving for other jobs, but are ready with their pitchforks the second they have one down season. The revisionist history regarding Dilly, when people were dogging him the second half of 2022, is killing me too. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, the fan base will never be content with their a OC over the long haul. There’s that initial honeymoon period, but around year 2 or 3, at the first hint of adversity, people will be calling for their job. Ok, that’s the end my rant.

If somebody told me the Ducks would only have one conference loss in the first year and a half in the BIG, plus a conference championship in their first year? I’d have done everything I could to see they were committed to an asylum.

Weird game. I don't care that the weather was bad, the offense did not look ready to play. Thankfully Wisconsin is riddled with injuries or we might have been in trouble.
That said, anytime QB1 goes out and QB2 gets the win, you've got to just take that and move forward. I've never really believed that Stein is that guy, and today was yet another exhibit to add to the pile of evidence, but we got the win and that's all that matters today.
The last four weeks of the season are going to be tougher than I thought they'd be. It's difficult to see us running the table. We'll see what happens.

Droop10 has some very solid points everyone. The pitchforks were out en masse for Dilly towards the end of 2022 as well. Anyone remember the double reverse involving Dante Thornton and Ty Thompson in the shadow of our own end zone vs Utah in 2022…late…in a close game?!?!
Although, to be fair to the board…bitching about coordinators has long been our brand. So we are owning it tonight.
Stein has long said his goal/philosophy is to do everything possible to get his studs either in space or advantageous 1-1 situations. That’s probably why he checks to screens against certain looks and certain head counts. He trusts his skill players to make those 1-1 edge blocks and then he trusts his ballcarriers to make defenders miss in space. It’s very low risk of turnover (Gary Bryant @ Rutgers excluded). We have also seen it set up the deep routes Stein wants to counter with if the D bites later in the game.
I know some on here hate it but it fits in with his philosophy so we may as well accept it’s gonna be there.

I know I’ve been overly critical of the coaching staff but I did chuckle at Lanning’s response to Crepea’s fair question about Brock Thomas and Dan kept mentioning that he was 4/4. We aren’t ESPN analysts we don’t just look at the box score, we watch the actual game with our eyes. Here is the breakdown of his 4 completions:greenyellow wrote: Sat Oct 25, 2025 11:21 pm Dan Lanning Post-Game Press Conference (he shows up at 1:40 mark):
1) 24 yard pass to Dakorien, by far his best play though it did help the Wisconsin defender thought the play was dead. But no doubt a very good pass from Thomas.
2) 19 yard pass to Dakorien on 3rd and 11 that was right to a Wisconsin defender but the ball went through his hands and happened to go right to Dakorien. Should’ve been a pick.
3) 2 yard pass to Dakorien on 3rd and a17 which Wisconsin allowed for good reason.
4) 1 yard touchdown to Gernnoris Wilson which was moreso due to the play design, he still delivered the ball where it needed to go so credit to him for that.
I understand he made some good plays, but to me just saying 4/4 doesn’t indicate Brock gives Oregon a better chance of winning than Novasad and Moga if Moore goes out with an injury.

Re: Wisconsin @ #6 Oregon (October 25, Sat 4 PM FS1)
Brock Thomas looked fine. I mean on a minute-per-minute basis the offense was more productive with him under center than with Moore. Not saying he's better, but he should be getting nothing but praise today for taking care of business in pretty terrible conditions.
We'll see how our offense looks at the end of this four-game stretch. Maybe under better playing conditions we regain our mojo and light it up. We're going to have pretty big talent advantages over these next four games, so we shouldn't see any massive struggles. We'll see at the end of the season what the body of work looks like. I just hope Lanning is ready to make a change if the body of work for this season ends up looking like last season's.

I still believe something is off with QB Moore. He seems to be less decisive than in earlier games. The O line feeds off of his energy and to me that was evident yesterday. Do you remember those two games against California Bears years ago, the ones played in conditions such as yesterday's? We killed those guys playing in that swimming pool of a field. Thomas was good enough to get us through the second half. Who ever thought he would be QB 2? We won and that is a wonderful thing. The crowd stayed and was the twelfth man. Hopefully the coaches get the team ready to power through these next four games.

FS1 showed a cut of Dan after the game with his family and Dan looked more irritated than anything. He did not look relieved, nor did he look like he had the same positive attitude he then showed in the postgame presser. He looked pissed and ready to go watch film.
That tells me he knows “the standard” is in this team. He’s seen it and he believes in this team. When they don’t show it, he gets to work correcting it.
I expect this team to go full FEBU mode over the bye. They will hear people doubting them, they will see the playoff rankings put them lower than they should be and they will hear how Iowa is going to outphysical and upset them.
Then I expect them to come out and have a performance just like at Utah in 2023 or at Michigan last year.
There’s gonna be plenty of motivation for Dan to use against Iowa.
We are a goofy fanbase at times. Before the season most of us predicted weird ups and downs due to youth or inexperience at very key positions. A lot of fans predicted 9-3.
So, we are currently 7-1…but now the sky is falling and everybody needs to be fired.
I’ll reiterate:
- Wiscy knew we wanted to run due to weather and style of game.
- They knew we had a backup QB in (again, in a monsoon) so we were probably keeping it on the ground.
- They held tOSU to 97 yards rushing.
- Their D allows less than 100 yards a game rushing.
All of the above and we still put up almost 170 Rushing Yards in the 2nd half. Even Fickell alluded to the fact we made an adjustment in the run game that they had no answers for in the 2nd half.
Was it perfect? No
Is their room for a ton of improvement? Absolutely.
But we all need to take deep breaths.

Re: Wisconsin @ #6 Oregon (October 25, Sat 4 PM FS1)
Day after thoughts:
-I still think we were lucky Wisconsin has an inept offense but it was impressive to see Stein make the necessary adjustments to put up that many rushing yards with those conditions and a backup QB. So big credit to Stein.
-Also credit to the OLine and their run blocking! Speaking of the OLine, outside of jumbo packages did they play Wilson at RT with Harkey at RG again? I didn’t notice it.
I’m afraid Moore is following the same trajectory he had at UCLA, he started off confident and looking great but as the season went on and he took hits his confidence got worse and worse and his play just plummeted. Seems like the OLine is so worried about giving up a sack they play tense, and it almost seems Will is scared of a sack or pick too. I’ve pointed out that Stein has always been too timid IMO but perhaps he knows that once Moore gets sacked or throws a pick his confidence and composure goes down so he tries to avoid it. Just a theory. But Moore’s confidence and composure seems very inconsistent.
-Matayo isn’t near as productive as last season, why is that? The position he’s playing this year? Drawing more attention with Burch gone? Is he dinged up? He only has 4 sacks through 8 games, 2 of which were against Montana State. We will need him at his best against arguably the best OLine in the nation in a couple weeks.
