We always score killer JC players before spring too! Masoli, Blount...

Re: Sick Of The Crying And NegaDucks
I don't really understand this thread. I mean, what do you expect fans to say when the most recent news is pretty much bad? I think fans, who take the time to follow recruiting, have a right to say what they think, even if it is negative. Because, realistically, the recent news has not been good, so what are we supposed to post on these message boards other than our honest assessments of the situation? Not to mention the fact that most of the time they are complaining in the threads that are breaking the news of a de-commitment, or somebody picking OSU etc. So what if people are being negative, recruiting at this time of year is a "what have you done for me lately" kind of attitude anyways. However, I believe when all is said and done this year, Oregon fans will realize that recruiting 5 stars is overrated, look at this year's Sugar Bowl. Notre Dame the last 2 seasons. The most important thing is getting commitments from the right kind of players (character kids), and letting them develop under a top notch program. Who cares if they aren't 5 stars, how many 5 stars were playing this year on the team that finished #10 in the country? Just get the recruits into the program, and let the coaches coach. But don't get mad at the fans for telling it like it is, because then what's the point of these message boards anyways? Especially when Oregon gets strung along by Boyd, who is looking less like a Duck every day now, and Bryce Brown, the #1 recruit in the country. It is hard for fans to sit by and finish 2nd or 3rd on the elite recruits. But I think that changes this year, with a possible NC run and the floodgates starting to open up in Florida.

I don't think we suck at recruiting or are even getting worse...I think the biggest sentiment around here and the reason for all the "whining" as you say is that for the last few months everything we've heard is how amazing this class is going to be and what a genius recruiter CK is and to just wait and they will come and now it's getting to the end and they're all going elsewhere...By no means have I given up on this class...it's solid as it is and if you add Boyd, Brown, Harris, Montgomery, Gaines, Hall, Marshall on to it or just half of those guys really it becomes a very good class and if you add most of them it becomes a great class...you get those top 3 and it's an elite class with two players that are #1 at there position(Harris was ranked #1 all year until grade issues came out) and a guy who is ranked in the top 5 at his position...with a bunch of high 4 star guys...The sky is definitely not falling yet but I just think with all the latest news people don't feel like we're gonna get any of these guys either and at that point ya this would be a disappointment.

Yeah, solid means good/great. I was happy with those 2 classes. Recruiting has definitely gotten better, but we need to continue to have classes like that or better to make a real run at a national championship. 1 "off year" in recruiting could really hurt. Who knows how the current class will end up, but I trust the 2010 class will be better if Oregon has another 10 win season in 09.[/quote]
2006 was considered by some an "off year", and I assume by you since you don;t mention it....you should take a look at that class, there are a lot of starters and key contributors on that list. We are in the midst of making a real run right now.

To call the 2006 class a "bad class" is beyond ignorant. It's one of best classes ever in terms of solid contributors. Few classes get that many good-great players out of it.

Dude, just stop already. Are you sure we are looking at the same class? Sorry, but that class wasn't very good. You're the same person that told me I was ignorant for saying I would trade Pryor for Masoli. Beyond ignorant? Sorry man, but sometimes you don't have a clue.

Do you rate a class by their star rating or their ON FIELD PRODUCTION?! Seriously, A class can be rated top in the nation but unless those recruits make contributions ON THE FIELD it's a bad class. So many of those "terrible" recruits have been a huge part of this teams success. Do you even watch the team play or do you just go by how many stars we get. You're the one who needs to get a clue.

Ok, so tell me, who in that class has been great at Oregon?

Re: Sick Of The Crying And NegaDucks
There were a lot of really good players out of that 2006 class. Harper was huge for us, so many game changing plays. Tupou was a starting LT who is now getting ready to become a player on Sundays. Roper has started a hand full of games for the ducks and hasnt lost a game as a starter. S. Paysinger is a starting OLB who has the chance to be a 3 year starter and a good one at that. Gibbs was a starting DT the year before last. Thran Kaiser and Holmes are going to be key contributers next year on the OL just like they were this year. M. Johnson will most likely be our starting rover this year replacing the great Pat Chung. Crenshaw and Alston have been solid backup RBs with Crenshaw contributing alot on Special Teams. For being a supposed weak class these guys have done alot for the ducks.

Well Matthew Harper & Fenuki Topou for starters. Then Alston, Marvin Johnson, Roper(starter), Crenshaw, Bo Thran(starter), Jeremy Gibbs(starter), C.E. Kaiser(starter), Jordan Holmes(starter), Spencer Paysinger(starter), Brandon Bair.
All of those guys have seen decent playing time at the least. Others have been key players. Find me a class that the Ducks have had with that many key contributers & starters in it.
OVER.

Just because they have seen playing time, doesn't mean it was a great class or that they are great players. That's fine, we don't need to talk about this anymore. Ask any recruiting expert though and they will tell you that it wasn't a very good class for Oregon. No point in arguing since the 07 and 08 classes were excellent. And since you asked for a class with key contributors and starters, why don't you go back a year to 2005. Byrd, Dickson, Stewart, Reed, etc. Nobody really stands out as of right now in the 2006 class.

I get where your coming from bro. All I'm trying to say is that for such a "weak" class it has actually been pretty good in terms of on field production.

Ok. I won't disagree that some of these guys have contributed, I just don't think any of them stand out or could be considered "great" right now. Most of those guys listed weren't the reason for our success this past season.

Yeah I wouldn't consider any of them "great" either. Topou & Harper were very good for us though. Again, all I'm trying to say is that rarely does a class be that solid all the way thru, from the 4*s to very lowest 2*s. So looking back it's been a much, much better class than any of us anticipated. I'm sure we were just pissed about how weak the class was & didn't see guys like Paysinger, Holmes, & Kaiser (all 2*'s) all being starters as sophmores.

Yeah, that's cool. In the end, we have currently had back to back very good seasons which is what really counts. Sometimes I wish that all we would see was a list of the commits without the stars. Recruiting is definitely exciting, but there are expectations that come along with it. THe bottom line: winning solves everything. Get to a national championship or even a BCS game and I bet that the ranking of our recruiting classes will be the last thing on our minds.
