Cam Colvin Arrested for Fraud

This was unfortunately a long time coming. I haven't been on twitter in now a few years but, being someone who used to follow him, the writing was all over the walls on this.

I think the most surprising thing for me in this is that he might have a kid!
He's probably too late to start wearing a red hat to get out of this one, lol.

I've been wary of Cam's so-called business deals for over a decade now so this really isn't too surprising. He basically used his notoriety as an ex football "star" to steal and make promises he could never keep while pretending to live a life that suggested he was uber successful.

Right^
It kinda sucks but guys like him, Cliff Harris, Cole Lyerla getting in trouble is probably not surprising for many of us.
Still a bummer to hear.

Re: Cam Colvin Arrested for Fraud
Pretty different situations so I'm wary of grouping them together. In college, I had one interaction with Colt that felt pretty telling. A friend was acting like an idiot in Colt's direction and I wouldn't have blamed Colt at all if he punched him in the face, and I recall being astonished that he got very visibly angry but ultimately turned the other cheek. I think he needed to get as far away from his family and start anew. He wasn't a violent guy, but the risk of drug addiction was always there given his family history.UOducksTK1 wrote: Sun Nov 02, 2025 8:55 am Right^

I've told this story on this board before, but I had an acquaintance who resold team-issued gear (shoes, backpacks, etc.). Knowing he carried cash, Harris and another guy kicked their door in during the middle of the night, dragged him and his roommate out of bed, pistol whipped them and robbed them both. They had their reasons for not going to the cops so it never became a thing you heard about, but instead just a crazy story a handful of people know and that I think about from time to time.
I have had no interaction with Cameron. If I searched, we probably have some mutual friends, but all I really know is what I read. I've worked with more than enough entrepreneurs to say 'fake it till you make it' is a well worn approach to getting ahead in business. There are probably a lot of people who only avoid trouble because they were ultimately successful. Cameron was not, it seems, and didn't know where to stop. That sucks and he's going to pay the price for it.

Re: Cam Colvin Arrested for Fraud
Never had any personal interactions with Cam Colvin but I remember seeing him driving a brand new Mercedes around campus and showing off two new Rottweiler puppies that likely weren't cheap while I interned in the athletic department my SR year. He was definitely getting some extra benefits to get those.
I did have a close encounter with another De La Salle guy. I remember being at a party off Hilyard St. near the Amazon Pool where I saw Jackie Bates and his brother start a fight with the person throwing the party. They ended up leaving before the cops showed up but Bates was kicked off the team shortly afterward so safe to say Bellotti had gotten word about it.

The Mercedes came from Don Johnson and the NCAA investigated him/Oregon over it. (They also interviewed him regarding the Reggie Bush stuff too)
I'm like 90% sure he paid for Mamas and Benzo because various women he was "dating" gave him the money, a story that seemed to have repeated itself to a much larger amount.

Don Johnson being involved with inappropriate gifts should shock no one. There was a reason Bellotti and Chip sort of kept him at arm's length from the program.Duck07 wrote: Sun Nov 02, 2025 9:20 pm The Mercedes came from Don Johnson and the NCAA investigated him/Oregon over it. The names of the dogs now ring a bell. I do remember one day him bringing both dogs into the Cas Center and telling a few staff members and other players they were his and his GF's. Him having multiple GFs wouldn't surprise me since he came off as kind of a player.

Didn't Mario hire Don and then Dan tried to get rid of him but for some reason could not.
Then regrettably he did get seriously ill and had to retire. Suffice to say Dan did not like him around the program.
On a separate note, Gary Campbell was known to give some ‘gifts’ as well.

Re: Cam Colvin Arrested for Fraud
I wonder sometimes about how NIL would have changed these guys' - and others - situations. Colvin's is white collar crime, so having more money may not have changed anything for him. The money could have helped give Colt more choices, or it could have done nothing (southern Oregon great/Duke and NBA veteran Kyle Singler is a weird but telling example). Harris is the one I could most see being positively effected. Guy never had money and learned to make it in the stupidest ways. Once the NFL dream went away, he went right back to those learned behaviors. Just to throw one more in, I would guess Masoli proooobably wouldn't have taken that laptop if NIL was a thing back then.lmduck wrote: Mon Nov 03, 2025 6:18 pm Didn't Mario hire Don and then Dan tried to get rid of him but for some reason could not.

Re: Cam Colvin Arrested for Fraud
Wasn't it Embry who stole the loot?. Masoli lied to the police and Kelly about being there, which is what got him suspended/kicked off the team.
As for Cliff Harris. He was always an asshole. His early success on the field only made it worse. We shared a mutual "friend" who helped in procurement of contraband plant matter. I occasionally saw him there at the spot at the same time. Then he stopped coming through, because he attempted a robbery of our mutual friend and almost got his head blown off for his trouble.
Sadly nothing I've ever heard or seen about him ever surprised me.
Those Kelly teams were a wild bunch compared to the the late Belotti and Taggart teams.

I wonder if we had the same friend? My buddy resold stuff that fell off of trucks on the way to the UO bookstore. Eventually got caught but his girlfriend's dad was buddies with Jim Williams so he was let off the hook but had to quit.StevensTechU wrote: Sun Nov 02, 2025 9:26 amPretty different situations so I'm wary of grouping them together. Those details don't match so I'm 99% they're different people, but never know.
