Sounds like it caught Lanning by surprise as Fields just didn't show up to practice today without telling the coaches.

CB Dakoda Fields enters portal
Oregon has lost another CB to the portal as RS FR Dakoda Fields is set to transfer. Not surprising given he's like CB5 or 6. It was a tough break for him missing all of last season with a knee injury. He'll be scooped up pretty fast by another P4 school.

I saw a blurb the other day that Lanning was pissed that a few freshman unexpectedly didn't show up to practice. It was from a gossip poster on fb, so I more or less ignored it, but now I wonder if it maybe had some legs

Theres one really simple way to handle all of this: You go to a school you play for a year and then you can transfer in the summer after your commitment is up.

Re: CB Dakoda Fields enters portal
I’ve heard the argument that transferring this early allows them to notify other schools they are on the market to get interest now. Just from judging how Oregon does it, unless you know where you want to go or if you’re going home, there’s no reason to transfer in this manner IMO. I find it weird that kids can just ditch in the middle of the season and an academic semester after taking a seat in a class from a non-athlete that may have wanted it. Wish there were certain restrictions regarding the transfer portal to stop situations like this.Duck07 wrote:Theres one really simple way to handle all of this: You go to a school you play for a year and then you can transfer in the summer after your commitment is up.

How does this work if they've been paid NIL money? Are they paid upfront? Are they paid per game, per semester, etc?OregonFan4Life wrote: Wed Nov 05, 2025 2:48 pmI’ve heard the argument that transferring this early allows them to notify other schools they are on the market to get interest now. Pretty sure they have to be paid, doesn’t matter what happens.

When it comes to NIL I'm sure there are contracts signed that cover these situations. From a school perspective, the scholarship should be pulled and they should have to pay for classes. If they're no longer with the team i would think they are no longer fulfilling their end of the scholarship agreementSuperDuck wrote: Wed Nov 05, 2025 4:15 pmHow does this work if they've been paid NIL money? A few freshmen didn't show up? I would think that's grounds for suspension and maybe even dismissal.squintsdd wrote: Wed Nov 05, 2025 1:06 pm I saw a blurb the other day that Lanning was pissed that a few freshman unexpectedly didn't show up to practice. Dan does not tolerate stuff like that. Jurrion Dickey is a good example.
The coaches are more than happy to help a guy land if a transfer is the best thing for them. Had Fields handled this properly I am sure the staff would have helped find a new landing place.
I'm sure there's more here than we’ll ever know but based on what we do know Fields didn't handle this right.

Like I said, it was a posting that came from a gossip site, so there probably isn't any substance to it. It just seems to have a small relation to this, but it very easily could just be coincidentallmduck wrote: Wed Nov 05, 2025 5:27 pmA few freshmen didn't show up? Re: CB Dakoda Fields enters portal
This seems to have had an impact on Oregon's recruiting in 2026 as the staff just offered a 6'3 JUCO corner named Asaad Chapman. His brother plays for UTSA but Oregon is clearly the biggest name on his offer list.

Also they could be worried about the DB depth and losing Offord if Hughes leaves. Especially if Hughes gets an offer at tOSU.

It sounds like offord was in line to start, or at least get significant playing time. Is there rumors of Hughes possibly going to OSU? I can't see him getting high on their depth chart either. They seem to be pretty deep at RB as well.bdkipe wrote: Thu Nov 13, 2025 12:36 pm Also they could be worried about the DB depth and losing Offord if Hughes leaves.
