Potential Future Scheduling

Right now our future schedules are very much empty, with our furthest game being a meeting against Texas Tech in 2033, with no games scheduled for 2030, 2031 and 2032, there's no Power 4 opponent in 2029 either.

I'm 100% aware there's an long Oregon State series being scheduled right now as well, albeit there hasn't been any official confirmation of it, only rumors, but leaving the Beavers aside, which games (especially P4 ones) could we look to schedule in the future?

The big name matchups are great, but I also appreciate playing games where our fans and alumni are. San Francisco is home to the third largest number of Oregon alumni and we have no games against Cal, Stanford, San Jose State, etc. Not as high, but places like Phoenix, Denver, and San Diego should get significant consideration in scheduling.

It'd be nice to play games against former Pac-12 members like Utah, ASU, and Cal so Oregon isn't having to travel that far in the non-conference part of the schedule, especially if they've got multiple games deep into Big Ten country.

I remembered seeing a report regarding the Oregon vs. Auburn game from 2019, it was speculated it was actually going to be a 2 game neutral site series where one game would have been played in the West Coast and viceversa, but it didn't happen and we only got a single matchup that year.

I would have loved that idea a lot more than just a one-off against the Tigers, albeit I'm kinda mad they didn't think about playing the games on Autzen and Jordan-Hare tho.

Sometimes I wish we didn't exclusively focus on those former Pac-12 members, I want more diverse, uncommon opponents too, yes I get that the Utah games were fun af, but I'd also like to play a regular season game against a SEC opponent, albeit rn it's more likely to play them in the Las Vegas Kickoff Game rather than on-campus

I don't want our schedule to be just local cupcakes

Honestly, I'm torn about playing high profile teams OOC because we already have such tough schedule in Big-10 play. If we played an Alabama, Notre Dame, etc and lost, and then still had to play our conference schedule of Ohio State/Indiana, Michigan, Penn State, Iowa, etc, we'd almost have to go undefeated in order to qualify for the playoffs. We may have to win the conference just to get in.

Of course, this depends a lot on what other teams do, but with all the 2 loss teams scrambling to get into the playoffs at the end of the year it just seems risky. Win and we're in great shape. Lose and we're a loss away from potentially missing out on the big dance.

This is another reason I think the playoffs should be expanded to 16 teams. Great OOC games could be played without as big of a risk.
