Awful quiet here for a rivalry game.

12 to go in the second half up 7.

Good news:
-Oregon has some athletes - Stewart can fly. He has some Jordan Bell in him on D.
-Evans looks so much more comfortable in his body this year.
-Phillips looks like a free (and potentially good) shooter.
-Bittle found his stride. So dynamic at everyone level of the floor tonight.

Bad news:
-If Oregon is a 7/10 on the athleticism scale, they think they’re an 11/10. So many head shaking moments. Shelstad breaking a dude’s ankles and then staring at him long enough that the guy gets back up and blocks his shot….
-Stewart at the line.
-Altman pulling Phillips as soon as he misses a shot. How dare he shoot with confidence…
-Stop fouling guys beyond the 3pt line late in the clock…. Ahhhh

That game was a tough watch. The refs were calling the game like they were getting paid by the whistle. They wouldn’t allow either team play any semblance of defense, or it would result in a foul. Ducks were already in the bonus 4 minutes into the game, and it somehow never slowed down from there. Just a hard game to watch, because neither team could get into any flow as a result.

Good win. The stars were stars —Great games by Shelstad and Bittle. Evans also created his own shot several times and played well around Bittle on D.

Simpkins will win us a few games this year, but they’ll have work around him when he’s cold.

Things get a lot harder from here.

Every win is a good win. Lots to correct and figure out with so many new faces, looking for improvement every game. This was an improvement.

Oregon is making progress, albeit slow progress. You can see the potential when they lock down on defense and have shots dropping due to ball movement and utilizing their superior athleticism. But then you see lapses with some of the bench guys who are still trying to find their roles. As usual, they have to keep working on their FTs as I can already feel them losing a couple games if they continue shooting like this.

Definitely the best game of the season and best shooting (outside of free throws, they need to work on free throws).

Officiating was horrible, overall they favored Oregon, mostly at the beginning, but if they suspected any sort of contact they were calling a foul, it was painful to watch. College basketball officials are the worst officials in sports.

It sounds like you have a great understanding of the game. High school associations are actually facing a shortage of officials, and people with your knowledge would be a huge asset. Have you ever considered joining?
You'd have to start here and put in many years of training and get some game experience before beginning to move up the career ladder. But if you're interested and live in Oregon, here is a link to join https://www.osaa.org/officials

Good game offensively. Defensively, a lot of guys open (Especially in the 1st half).

Overall, it's nice to have Simpkins playing at a high level alongside our big 3. Positive overall!
