Will Stein to Kentucky?
Sounds like Will Stein is an early favorite for the Kentucky job now that they've fired Mark Stoops.

Sounds like they're doing the classic over correction where they go get an offensive guy after years of mostly good defense but putrid offense.
I don't know how Jeff Traylor doesn't get picked for these jobs.

Somehow I doubt Chip ends up with the Kentucky job after the way he bombed out at UCLA. Sounds like it's a race between Stein and OSU OC Brian Hartline.

Re: Will Stein to Kentucky?
That would be sort of a funny coincidence if Chip were hired in that Rich Brooks, another former Duck head coach (long retired), coached Kentucky 2003-2009.greenyellow wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 10:33 pm Somehow I doubt Chip ends up with the Kentucky job after the way he bombed out at UCLA. Not sure chip would want to be a college HC again, especially in this era of recruitment and NIL babies.
If will stein gets a few more good years at Oregon under his belt, he could be in line for a HC spot at an upper echelon P4 team.

I always thought that CK's ideal job would be HC at one of the service academies.

I'm in this line of thinking, especially when we're back in the Playoffs.alxtw wrote: Mon Dec 01, 2025 2:17 am Not sure chip would want to be a college HC again, especially in this era of recruitment and NIL babies.

I get that with Early Signing Day if you leave you want to get a head start on those things but we're talking Kentucky and Football and it seems far more prudent to stay in a spot you're excelling at and wait for a much better opportunity. I think Tosh is in a much different spot than Will in that regard too but if this is a job that Will really likes than you obviously can't fault a Coach for believing in himself to be the difference maker.

A few more years of this at Oregon and Stein could probably point his people at all but about 20 jobs in CFB and they’d magically open up.Duck07 wrote:I'm in this line of thinking, especially when we're back in the Playoffs.alxtw wrote: Mon Dec 01, 2025 2:17 am Not sure chip would want to be a college HC again, especially in this era of recruitment and NIL babies.

I don’t get the UK appeal. I agree that Tosh and Stein are at very different spots in their career, but isn’t UK the Cal of the Midwest? They just fired their Jeff Tedford, a man who fell victim to the bar he set.
The SEC dropped the division format in 2023 and is moving to 9 conference games next year. The days of UK falling into 7-8 wins each year are behind them. It’s a trap, Stein! Don’t do it.

Re: Will Stein to Kentucky?
The thing that Tosh has over Stein is a long track record of being an elite recruiter everywhere he has been. Even in the era of NIL, when two equal resourced programs go after a recruit the better sales job wins. I think Tosh's salesmanship will go a long way in not only acquiring players but also sought after assistants which will enable him to compete in the ACC.
Were I to place a bet on which one would win more games I would take Tosh at Cal over Stein @ Kentucky and even spot him a game each season.
The first battle for Tosh will be keeping his QB away from Lanning if Moore goes Pro this year.

I doubt we see an announcement for Tosh, Stein, Hampton or otherwise until after signing day. I think Lanning has enough of these guys' respect that they will wait so there isn't a flurry of deconmitments.

As for Will Stein at Kentucky, his parents are both alums and had season tickets to Kentucky for years.

from everything I know about his personality, agree with this 100%. My way or the highway probably works a lot better at a service academy.73duck wrote: Mon Dec 01, 2025 8:43 am I always thought that CK's ideal job would be HC at one of the service academies.

Re: Will Stein to Kentucky?
Will he stay for the playoffs? For Tosh, I feel like we could just plug in Hampton, but hard to imagine someone could replace Stein, maybe Mehringer?
