I couldn’t agree with you more. The teams who had a bye in last year’s playoffs did not do well, a tune up game with a lesser opponent would be nice.

I do like how the CFP are willing to bump teams up and down based on recent data. I feel like AP/Coaches poll are a little less moldable in such situations.

Of the 15ish teams who could still theoretically get in, who would Ducks fans least like our chances against?

I think I'm something like...

1. Ohio State (shutdown defense, offensive weapons) 2. Indiana (beat us by 10 at our house) 3. Miami (defensive line and run game) 4. Georgia (capable of playing big in big moments even though I don't think they're as good as 5/6) 5/6. Texas Tech (really good defense) Notre Dame (explosive run game and well rounded) 7. Ole Miss (good overall team 8/9. Texas A&M (explosive but also meh) Oklahoma (great defense and terrible offense) 10. Virginia (a better overall team than they get credit for) 11. Vanderbilt (annoying QB style) 12. Alabama (logo is scarier than the team's performance) 13. BYU (a notch down in talent and one-dimensional offense) 14. North Texas (theoretically, their offense could go off) 15. Tulane (overall OK team) 16. James Madison (a step down from last year's Boise, talent-wise)

It's pretty surreal if Duke wins, ACC will very likely have no team in the playoffs.

We have only lost to 5 teams under Lanning's tenure. 3 out 5 of those teams will be in the playoffs.

Ohio State

We have some good motviation if we face any of these teams.

The Tulane coach literally sa he doesn’t think they should be in. And they are ranked to high

I find it hard to believe that he has said any of that, and a quick search didn’t pull up anything. Why would any coach campaign against their team being in the playoff? G5 schools should absolutely have spots in the playoff. I always thought it was dumb that half of D1 legitimately had no chance to even play for a championship. It’s what makes March Madness so great…the Cinderella stories. I’d rather see a Tulane or JMU get their crack at it than 3 loss P4 teams.

lol, I found the quote. That was a classic post game rant from a coach that was disgusted with his team’s recent performance. Certainly not him lobbying for keeping them out of the playoff. Either way, G5’s deserve a spot in the dance. I don’t care if 3 loss teams are being left out. If you have 3 losses, you probably don’t deserve a chance to win the championship. Now, I can see an argument that Tulane may not be the best G5 rep. James Madison has a pretty decent argument there, as does North Texas, but the North Texas/Tulane argument will sort itself out this weekend.

If Oregon is healthy I'm not afraid to play anyone. That includes Ohio State, Georgia, and Indiana. Elite QB, elite run game, elite defense, elite special teams.

I think I've come around to the notion that Miami should be 1 spot ahead of Notre Dame even if I might think that ND would win a rematch today.

I noticed several weeks ago when it became apparent that there would be a logjam on the bubble that ESPN and SEC hacks began talking about Notre Dame and Miami ad nauseum as if only one of them should make it. The truth is probably that they are both better than most of the SEC teams that are being ranked above them. The thing about basing things on the 'eye test' is that then it becomes more a function of these manufactured narratives, and the narrative-makers are all in the tank for the SEC.

It seems both coordinators will be with Oregon throughout the playoffs

Stein is still coaching through the playoffs just like Lanning did at Georgia. As far as I know, Tosh has not even been named the Cal coach yet. I don't think coordinators have the same weight as head coaches in terms of perception by the committee, but at any rate, we only have to hold it together for five more days. Afterthe final rankings come out next Sunday, the field will be set and new rankings won't matter anymore.

I don't think coordinators have the same weight as head coaches in terms of perception by the committee, but at any rate, we only have to hold it together for five more days. Afterthe final rankings come out next Sunday, the field will be set and new rankings won't matter anymore.

Shoot, even if the talking heads wanted to drop us a spot it's probably only going to benefit us by putting us into the 6 spot where we'd avoid the 1 seed until the final and make sure that we host a 1st round game. If Evan Stewart and Dak are both good to go now, it probably helps to give the offense a game together.

The fact that this is even a legit question shows awful the system is.

The CFP committee will punish teams based on their current personnel (see FSU 2 years ago) rather than their ACTUAL PERFORMANCE means that you no longer have competition.

How this is being tolerated is quite unbelievable.
