Re: CFP Playoff Rankings
Funny thing about Miami getting in over ND is that I think ND would beat both Miami and Texas ATM if they played again. I think they've long overcome the growing pains of having a freshman QB and a brand new DC.

Re: CFP Playoff Rankings
I keep harping on the "best" versus "best records."
If it's best teams - those with the greatest chance of winning the championship - it's Miami and Notre Dame.
If it's "best record" - those that had the best regular season - it's BYU and Alabama.
The committee did neither. They stood by their principle of do what ESPN wants, which is get ESPN properties (SEC and ACC) into the playoff.

Well, I was right that they didn't want to screw the ACC again, so instead they screwed the team with no conference. I guess everyone is happy except maybe one of the single largest fanbases in America. I'm sure there will never be any repercussions from this decision.

Re: CFP Playoff Rankings
OTOH, if all Notre Dame has to do is go 10-2 and get in every year, that would also lead to them scheduling poorly; all they had to do was split the early games vs Miami/TAMU to get in at 11-1. Making that a weaker schedule wouldn't have bolstered their argument so I hate the main ESPN talking point about how this bracket is going to cause schools to make their schedules worse.Phalanx wrote: Sun Dec 07, 2025 10:47 am Well, I was right that they didn't want to screw the ACC again, so instead they screwed the team with no conference. Sounds like we might get Notre Dame vs. BYU in the Pop Tarts Bowl, which could end up being a better game than Texas ATM vs. Miami if they don't get ruined by opt-outs.

Never once did I hear anyone bring up that Bama lost to 5-7 Florida State. Coupled with the “eye test” from the SEC CCG, promoting Alabama is criminal.

Gross. ESPN has absolutely rigged this thing and isn’t even trying to hide it.

Plus struggled mightily vs Auburn only a week ago.AutzenMember wrote: Sun Dec 07, 2025 11:08 am Never once did I hear anyone bring up that Bama lost to 5-7 Florida State. Coupled with the “eye test” from the SEC CCG, promoting Alabama is criminal.

So NOW a 3 loss team is acceptable for the playoffs? Because I remember specifically in past years it was a near consensus that a 3 loss team is not making the playoffs.

no you don't understand. you get rewarded for winning a rivalry game, regardless of how the win was achieved (if your team name rhymes with Alabama).bellsduck wrote: Sun Dec 07, 2025 11:40 amPlus struggled mightily vs Auburn only a week ago.AutzenMember wrote: Sun Dec 07, 2025 11:08 am Never once did I hear anyone bring up that Bama lost to 5-7 Florida State. Re: CFP Playoff Rankings
Is everyone ok with only 5 out of 10 conferences getting a guaranteed spot? In my book, the voting system and the exclusion that comes with it, indicates that there too many teams in FBS (Div. 1A). CFP is going to get sued again...

Not a fan of having to play tech in the second round. I think Oregon matches up better against any other team

Re: CFP Playoff Rankings
I see the argument both ways. It’s a little unfair to punish a team for losing that 3rd game when the teams they are going up against didn’t have to play that extra game and sat on their couches with 2 losses. Yes, the eye test says they aren’t good enough, but if you had them ahead last week, it would be kind of shitty to move them down for teams that didn’t play. Perhaps ND should look into joining a conference. I don’t feel bad for them.QuackininBama wrote: Sun Dec 07, 2025 11:54 am So NOW a 3 loss team is acceptable for the playoffs? Our offense against their defense, not a great match up. They share a lot of qualities with Indiana on that side of the ball.squintsdd wrote: Sun Dec 07, 2025 12:14 pm Not a fan of having to play tech in the second round. I think Oregon matches up better against any other team
Our defense against their offense, I love this for the Ducks.

Oregon’s path is basically as good as you could ask for. I wish we had the fiesta bowl in the semis though…
