Sloppy shake the rust off game. Whatever. Not great but not the worst result, either.

Based on this, Jordon Davison wasn't putting any weight on his ankle. Not good. This is why Lanning should never have taken the foot off the gas until JMU started subbing in their backups. It did feel like JMU was being a try hard by trying to stick in so many garbage TDs with their starters in. Still, Oregon's coaches should have been all over the backups to keep them playing hard.

Dang, I love Lanning but he’s 100% to blame for this injury.greenyellow wrote:Based on this, Jordon Davison wasn't putting any weight on his ankle. Not good. You also have to blame the players for losing focus and not giving their best effort. I do agree Lanning should have seen JMU wasn't pulling their starters and stuck his back in to stop JMU. If this is how Chesney will be at UCLA, there could be some bad blood in the future.OregonFan4Life wrote: Sun Dec 21, 2025 12:16 amDang, I love Lanning but he’s 100% to blame for this injury.greenyellow wrote:Based on this, Jordon Davison wasn't putting any weight on his ankle. Been training myself for years to not overreact to either Spring Games or garbage time.
Advanced stats will most likely knock off everything after about 4:22 in the second quarter as "garbage time" no longer meaningfully part of the game.
Davison however is bad news.

The backups on defense played awful. I was surprised that Lanning didn't have more starters in after JMU scored 2 TDs.wepto wrote: Sat Dec 20, 2025 10:59 pm Sloppy shake the rust off game. Whatever. Not great but not the worst result, either.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we won the game. I just thought the Ducks would go on to totally shut them down.
I also wanted the CFP Committee to be able to justify not giving non-Power Four teams automatic bids. Ol' Miss did their part vs Tulane and we gave up way too many points.

A team that can’t stay focused for an entire playoff game probably isn’t a championship caliber team. They’re young and hopefully a lot of these guys return, especially Moore.
Big picture, this is now two playoff games where the team has shown a lack of preparedness/focus/execution/etc. This team just doesn’t play well after any sort of layoff. Thankfully, we have a shorter turnaround so hopefully they won’t have time to slack or get unprepared or whatever the heck happens to this team when they have a week off.

Haven't read the all the comments, but it seems to be 50/50 on how people feel about that second half. I would like to remind people that Oregon was once up 31-0 at halftime against TCU during the Alamo bowl, AND LOST. The score might seem insurmountable, but to a motivated team that wants to prove it belongs, insurmountable odds are the odds that they thrive in. As an Oregon fan I nearly turned the game after the 3rd quarter, because I knew it was going to be sloppy. I hope Lanning knocks them all down a peg, and for once I agree with df4l. Tosh has served his purpose. If even for one second during practice he seems distracted by is responsibilities to Cal, send him on his way with a handshake and a smile.

Bright side.....a Oregon kicker made a field goal over 40 yards. I feel somewhat confident if the game comes down to a fg they may make it. Altho my bp still goes up whenever they line up for fgs

Morning after thoughts having been at the game is that I'm so tired of people ragging on the G5 schools and whether they deserve a chance or not.
That was a great experience from the JMU fans who showed up and were passionate all night long and were great representatives of their school.
Nothing about a 12 team Playoff (or greater) is about crowning a National Champion based on the season's schedule so making arguments about "worth" of teams with multiple losses just seems stupid and an argument without merit.
Nothing about Alabama/OU made me think those 2 teams are NC-worthy, same for Miami-TAMU so why is there a concern that Tulane and JMU made it in when we've already established the Playoffs aren't about crowning the most deserving team?
What you do instead by leaving them out is to gate-keep College Football Fandom and interest so that only the approved list of schools are allowed to play and that doesn't create more fans of the sport but fewer.
We literally saw a HC of a team in the Playoffs leave his school for another job in the same conference - so it doesn't even "mean more" to the dipstick directional conference.
All of this stuff is about money for money's sake and its gross.

Take aways:
The second half play (execution) was absolute s*** except for special teams.
Anyone criticizing JMU’s coaching staff for not pulling starters, sure if they are a starting underclassman I get pulling them to let a Senior backup play in their last ever game. If I’m a Senior starter and you’re wanting to pull me to let an underclassman play you can GFYS, I would hit the locker room and then the closest sports bar to finish watching the game. As a developmental program I doubt JMU has very many Seniors in the 3-4 deep.
If you watched the JMU loss to Louisville you know JMU wasn’t going to lay down or just go through the motions.
A loose unwritten rule, if you’re the team who is up big on the scoreboard you don’t pull your starter before your opponent does or until 3-5 min left in the game depending on score. The exceptions being QB, positions with thin depth
Donte Moor is not ready for the NFL from an experience and mental perspective, he absolutely is from a talent and athletic perspective.
Once you pull starters, putting them back in rarely works out
Not completely destroying JMU in the second half is 100% on our young coach, not executing is 100% on our young backups.
What I did like seeing even though we were getting beat was staying aggressive with both the offensive and defensive play calling.
Hopefully this was a valuable lesson learned without the consequence of being eliminated.

How is Lanning to blame for an injury again? Because he gave Davison 10 carries in a playoff game? People in this thread seem to be criticizing the coaches for one injury, while also criticizing them for taking out starters....to avoid injuries. As for me, I am happy that there was only that one injury, and we will see how bad that was. The Ducks didn't get style points in the second half, but they won the game comfortably, they got a lot of players some snaps, and as I mentioned before, there is lots of room for humility and hard practicing due to the second-half regression. Actually, I'm not sure this could have been drawn up any better heading into the next game, especially if Davison can heal up before the Orange Bowl. It was coached like an NFL pre-season game, tuning up for the real ones. Lanning knows what he is doing.greenyellow wrote: Sun Dec 21, 2025 12:27 amYou also have to blame the players for losing focus and not giving their best effort.
